FEATHER RIVER

I used ¼ ounce Little Clleos in copper and red / copper ..” Annual Chinook salmon spawning activities at the Feather River Fish Hatchery in Oroville have been completed and the facility is now spawning steelhead . The Hatchery collected enough eggs to meet its normal production goal of 2 million spring-run fingerlings and 6 million fall-run fingerlings , with additional eggs collected to increase production this year , according to the California Department of Water Resources . Another 1 million spring-run and 6 million fall-run Chinook salmon will be produced to address declines in Central Valley Chinook salmon populations during recent years . Chinook salmon fingerlings raised at the Hatchery will be released in the Feather River and San Francisco Bay between March and June to support inland and ocean populations . The Feather River Fish Hatchery is a SWP facility built in the late 1960s by DWR to mitigate impacts on fish migration resulting from the construction of Oroville Dam . DWR owns and maintains the facility and provides funding to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife ( CDFW ) to perform spawning , rearing , and stocking operations . Feather River flows are at 800 cubic feet per second ( cfs ) through the City of Oroville with 950 cfs being released from the Thermalito Afterbay River Outlet ( Outlet ) for a total Feather River release of 1,750 cfs downstream . DWR continues to assess Feather River releases daily The public can track precipitation , snow , reservoir levels , and more at the California Data Exchange Center . The Lake Oroville gage station is identified as “ ORO .” Upstream migrating fish totals through the Feather River Fish Monitoring Station between Jan . 1 and Dec . 13 , 2024 were : 7,152 spring-run Chinook salmon ( March 1 through June 30 ); 40,163 fall-run Chinook salmon ( July 1 through present ) and 1,797 steelhead .

Boaters Are Working for Trout and Bass

FOLSOM – Cal Kellogg of Fish Cal Kellogg reported tough fishing on his latest solo trip to Folsom Lake , catching a 17 inch rainbow trout weighing 2 pounds off Peninsula Point . “ It fought really hard , making several power dives before I got it in the net and released it ,” said Kellogg . “ I hooked the rainbow while trolling a Trout Trix Worm in bubblegum at 16 feet right off the Peninsula Ramp .” He noted that “ just because you ’ re

I never saw that fish on my fish finder .” “ I hit Folsom this morning and the weather was awesome like the forecast said it would be ,” reported Brad Irish after his latest trolling adventure to Folsom on the Folsom Lake Fishing Reports Facebook Page . “ We launched out of Browns Ravine at 7:30 am and fished until 11:00 am .. We caught a trout right at 8:00 am at 15 ft going 2.0 mph and then caught a salmon at 25 ft around 9:15 am at 1.8 mph . We used a 6 ” dodger with a hoochie tipped with tuna .” Big fish honors go to Luke Johns , who caught and released a 9.05 lb . largemouth on December 31 . “ What a way to end 2024 ,” said Johns . “ This is a new home lake personal best . I caught it on a jerkbait with upgraded Owner treble hooks and 10 lb . Sunline FC Crank .” The speed limit on Folsom Lake is currently 5mph . The only open launch ramp is Hobie Cove at Brown ’ s Ravine . The surface water temperature is 51 degrees . Folsom Lake is holding 357,387 acre feet of water , 37 percent of capacity and 89 percent of average .
