Crabbing Main Attraction Until Rockfish Season Begins

BODEGA BAY – Crabbing has been kimd of okay for the guys with lots of pots soaking in the outer bay . A three to seven day soak seems to help on the numbers . There have been limits but no high grading . Inside the bay has been tough , as heavy tides and loads of fresh water have made the crabbing slow . In both cases there haven ’ t been a whole lot of takers . From shore the snarers have mostly been blown and washed out by more weather than crab . It looks like a few breaks in the weather this week , so maybe better numbers ? Time will tell . It appears that this year is probably a no for salmon again , but maybe later ? We ’ ll see .

Anglers Target Bay Sharks and Stripers

SAN FRANCISCO - Captain Ron Koyasako of Nautilus Excursions tells me that he ’ s been fishing on the West side of San Pablo Bay with his customers at anchor mainly for leopard sharks and bat rays using herring for bait . Capt . Ron did say that on his most recent trip one of his customers hooked a keeper halibut , but it came undone at the boat before it was close enough to net . Meanwhile , Captain Craig Hanson of Argo Sportfishing has been doing much of the same . Capt . Craig has also been heading to the west side of San Pablo Bay with his client ’ s anchoring up for leopard sharks , bat rays , striped bass , and an occasional sturgeon ( see the attached photos ). Capt . Craig did tell me that he heard of a private boat that drifted dead anchovies in the South Bay near the old Candlestick Park area for a “ couple ” of keeper halibut . That is definitely a good sign for the coming months . If you would like to book a

MONTEREY – As anglers get ready for the beginning of rockfish and lingcod season on April 1 , the charter boats are booking sanddab and petrale sole trips on Monterey Bay . The RED ROOSTER III operates a variety of long range fishing expeditions from Lee Palm Sportfishers in San Diego , California , for over 40 years ! which is a series of connected way points defined in Federal regulations ( 50 CFR Part 660 , Subpart C ). These regulations are subject to change . On December 23 , 2024 , the end of the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf , where the Dolphin Restaurant and Restroom # 3 were located , collapsed into the ocean along with three construction workers . Two workers were rescued by Santa Cruz Lifeguard Unit 3166 , and the third was self-rescued , according to the City of Santa Cruz . The wharf reopened to the public on Saturday , 1 / 4 / 25 at 7 AM . Please follow all posted signage and warnings to ensure public safety . The area of the wharf that was closed for construction will remain closed to the public . The affected wharf section has been closed since January 2024 due to damage from intense storms in late 2023 and early 2024 . Construction began in fall 2024 to reinforce the area , including the demolition of the Dolphin Restaurant , necessary to effect the repairs .
