for rainbow trout.“ We were rewarded with perfect weather and outstanding fishing,” Dr. Hurwitz revealed.“ We caught a total of 12 Mt. Lassen Trout, 7 in Howden Cove and 5( including the 5.2 pounder) in East Cove.”“ We were flatlining jointed Rapalas with scent applied in shallow water some 8 feet below the surface. We had strikes( about 15 altogether) about every 20 minutes! All but two fish were released,” Hurwitz stated.“ The water clarity was excellent, with a surface temperature around 55.5 degrees. A great day in all respects. As always, we compliment the staff for their outstanding courtesy and help,” he concluded. Shore anglers targeting trout should experience the top success using garlic scented PowerBait, nightcrawlers and white jigs. Shore anglers continue to hook striped bass while tossing out anchovies in the South Cove and off the fishing pier near the marina. The keeper fish average 18 to 21 inches long. If you want to channel catfish, fish chicken livers in the South Cove and elsewhere on the lake. The catfish being caught average 2 to 5 pounds, but bigger fish are out there. The water level is now 141,000
acre feet. The water clarity has been good except for the rainy and windy days. Boating has been limited due to wind. Please call the marina and check the conditions before arriving so you can plan accordingly. For more information, call( 925) 371-2628.

ANGELS CAMP- Anglers embarking on trolling adventures now on New Melones Reservoir are landing a mixture of rainbow trout, kokanee salmon and even an occasional brown trout.“ I had the honor of having an awesome group of guys out on New Melones this morning, not expecting too much due to the moon, but was I ever wrong,” reported Kyle Wise of Headhunter Sportfishing after a recent trip,.“ Instant action made for a very fun trip for our clients and bags of fillets of kokanee salmon and rainbow trout to take home for the smoker.“ Paulina Peak Tackle dodgers paired with Apex lures and platinum skinny flutter bugs did most of the damage, with a few fish on hoochies. With six rods out we caught fish from 10’ down to 65’ with Pautzke’ s Herring fire gel,” he observed.“ With the kokanee showing up in good numbers. we’ re going to have

It was great seeing John Dahl and Richard Medley out doing what they do.” Boaters interested in participating
