SALTWATER REPORTS:
CONTINUED FROM PG 25
MONTEREY BAY
Surf Casters Nail Barred Perch
SANTA CRUZ – If you want to catch perch,
February and March are excellent months to go surf
fishing in Monterey Bay.
“The surfperch fishing has been great with reports
of 10-15 inch fish being reported from the beaches
south of Rio del Mar,” said Todd Fraser of Bayside
Marine. Anglers are tossing out plastic grubs, Berkley
Sand Worms, shrimp and bloodworms for the tasty
perch.
When the weather cooperates with anglers, anglers
are picking up sanddabs in 150-220 feet of water near
Pajaro.. “There have been some incidental salmon
caught and released by anglers targeting sanddabs,”
he said.
“Soquel Creek and San Lorenzo River have
VOL.38 • ISS. 5
been producing some quality steelhead when
the streams are fishable,” said Fraser. “The
steelhead are biting roe, nightcrawlers, pink
worms and Little Cleos.”
The Kahuna out of Moss Landing is in
the boatyard for the annual maintenance
this February.
Anglers boarding boats out of
Chris’ Fishing Trips in Monterey
are bagging a mixture of
sanddabs, sole and Dungeness
crabs when the weather allows the
boats to get out. The latest
trip by 7 anglers aboard the
Checkmate produced 300
sanddabs, 15 rock crabsand
48 Dungeness crab.
The rockfish season ended with limits all around for
anglers fishing aboard the California Dawn.
