The hatchery has planted steelhead
smolts in the river below Boyd’s Pump.
In addition, the hatchery also released
steelhead kelts (spawned out adult males)
into the Sacramento at Verona and into
the Thermalito Afterbay, with 50 percent
of the fish going into each spot. They
released all of the spawned out females
back into the Feather.

FOLSOM LAKE
Trollers Battle Rainbows,
Kings
SACRAMENTO - Fishing for rainbow
trout and landlocked king salmon has
been surprisingly productive for trollers
at Folsom Lake lately during the breaks
between winter storms,
Jerry Lampkin of TNG Motor Sports
Guide Service made a trip to the reservoir
on Thursday, February 21, that produced
a total of 10 fish, including eight holdover
rainbows and two kings, for two anglers.
“We had a pretty good day on Folsom
with Don Vaught from Manteca and Igor
Bobritskiy from Livermore,” said Lampkin.
“Don scored the first fish of the day with a
17.5 inch rainbow, but Igor landed big fish
of the day with an 18.5 inch rainbow.”
“Both fish hit a Crystal Basin Wee
Thing lure in purple/chrome at 15 feet
down and 1.5 mph. The Wee Thing also
and a king longlined on the
top at 1.5 mph. The other
king hit a copper/red Speedy
Shiner at 20 feet at 3 mph.
Chartreuse/chrome Speedy
Shiners produced a couple of
rainbows also.
“Both kings and a couple
of the smaller planter
rainbows were in the South
Fork narrows above Browns
Ravine. The big rainbows
were up the North Fork,”
noted Lampkin.
The water temperature
was 48.5 degrees and the
lake was clear of debris, with
good color and just a hint of
tan.
Other anglers are also
bagging quality fish at
Folsom. On Sunday,
February 24, Carrie
Victorine Hodges from
Loomis landed two quality
rainbows measuring 18.5
and 16 inches while trolling
a Speedy Shiner with Karl
Ross.

Terry Raahauge Memorial Shoot Draws Big Crowd!
T
he weather was overcast but largely rain free
on Saturday February 23 at Linc Raahauge’s
Pheasant, Chukar and Sporting Clays Club in the
rolling hills outside Dunnigan, Ca.
This was great since the annual Terry Raahauge
Memorial Shoot was held that day and a big crowd
turned out for some hunting and shooting fun
combined with a killer raffle and a BBQ lunch with
all the trimmings. I ate way too much chili and too
many cookies but it was worth it!
Terry Raahauge, founder of the club, passed away
five years ago and he is sorely missed. He was a
bigger than life personality and a loyal friend. He
could smack talk with the best of them with a great
sense of humor, but if you were a friend he’d do
anything for you.
The year before Terry passed, he and I took a spring
striper fishing trip and it was super fun. The bite was
on, the bass were grabbing our minnows and Terry had
a big smile on his face. I’d enjoyed Terry’s hospitality
many times and it was great getting him out on the
water.
What’s Happening At Raahauge’s This Spring?
Raahauge’s club consists of 2,400 acres spread across
both flat fields and rolling hills. On crisp blue sky
mornings, the golden hills and cackling roosters lull
you into a sense that you might actually be visiting the
much-storied pheasant hunting grounds in the Dakotas
rather than California’s Sacramento Valley!
While things will be winding down at Raahauge’s in
terms of the 2018/19 hunting season, you can still get
out and chase chukars and pheasants until the end of
April, depending on the availability of birds.
After that Raahauge’s will remain open for
sporting clays and dog training, including
K-9 rattlesnake awareness courses.
For more information about upcoming
events at the club, check them out online
at www.lincraahauges.com or give Donna
Raahauge a call at (530) 724-0552.

GREAT Fishing for:
KLAMATH RIVER
Happy Camp Area Produces
Lots of Steelhead Before
Latest Storms
HAPPY CAMP – The most consistent
steelhead fishing in California at this time
is on the Klamath River, where anglers
are hooking a mixture of adults and half
pounders inbetween winter storms.
“On my latest two drift boat trips in the
Happy Camp area, we did very well on
adult and half pounder steelhead,” said
Mario Gomez of Ironhead Guide Service.
“We caught and released 7 to 8 adult
steelhead in the 5 to 8 lb. range and
around 15 half pounders each day.”
Gomez has been experiencing the top
action while side drifting yarn. He and
other guides will be targeting steelhead on
the Klamath through March.
“If you want to go catch a bunch of fish
and not see a single soul, this is the time
to hit the Klamath River,” summed up
Gomez.

pressure on the Sacramento River from
Colusa to Verona has been light, due to
high flows and stormy weather. However,
Tim Boggs of Elkhorn Outdoors noted that
there are a lot of sturgeon jumping and
rolling on the river, so the bite should pick
up soon.
