4D charts. C-Map 4D empowers you
with plenty of useful data that you can
overlay onto a rich vector chart, such as
relief vectors, tidal streams and marine
plans, significantly boosting situational
awareness. Creating routes and waypoints
is as simple as touch-and-go.

C-Weather, which provides download-
able wind, wave, weather, humidity and
temperature information to add to your

MONTEREY BAY
Boaters Get Ready for
Rockfish and Salmon
Seasons
SANTA CRUZ – Fishing pressure
in Monterey Bay has been very light
lately. Few anglers have fishing
rom boats for sanddabs, halibut
and Dungeness crabs or targeting
surfperch from shore.
However, things will change
dramatically when the salmon and
rockfish seasons open in April. The
Kahuna out of Moss Landing will be
embarking on salmon and rockfish
trips when the seasons begin. The
rockfish season will open April 1,
while the salmon season will start
April 7.
The 15th Annual Sand Crab
Classic Surf Perch Derby will be
held out of Santa Cruz on Saturday,
March 9. The event sold out within
a few days.
Before the most recent big
storms,, the perch fishing was
“great” with reports of 10-15
inch fish being caught from
the beaches south of Rio
del Mar, according to Todd
Fraser of Bayside Marine.
Anglers are using plastic grubs,
Berkley Gulp! Sandworms, live
pileworms and other baits.
Sanddab/crab fishing trips
out of Chris’ Fishing Tips in
Monterey are producing big
numbers of sanddabs and a
mixture of rock and Dungeness
crabs. The 14 anglers boarding
the Caroline on
Sunday, March 3,
caught “lots of
sanddabs,” 24
rock crabs and
49 Dungeness
crabs.

Bruce Poole bagged this big barred surfperch while slinging a Gulp! sandworm off a coastal beach
this February. Bruce was fishing with his wife when he landed the perch.
