LAKE PARDEE cont. angling team of Lily Cooper and Bianka Schlegel from Valley Springs, who bagged rainbows to 4 pounds while soaking PowerBait. “Bright colors of garlic-scented trout dough bait are working best in the slightly stained water,” said Mo Souza of the Rocky River Recreation Company at Pardee. “We planted 1000 pounds of Calaveras Trout Farm rainbows this week for a total of 15,000 pounds since the mid- February lake opener.” Souza said the rainbows will hold in the main marina cove for a day or so before moving out into the main lake. More trollers are starting to get in on the action in the main lake. For example, Kris Caceres of Loomis won first place in the adult division of the recent Trout Anglers Challenge event at Pardee by landing a 7.03 lb. rainbow while trolling. Robbie Dunham of Koke Machine Guide Service took out “Mrs. Koke Machine” for three days of fishing at Pardee, catching a total of 27 trout and a 13.5-inch kokanee at the mouth of the river. They kept their one day limits and releasing the rest. However, anglers need to purchase a fishing permit every day at the lake - and you may only keep one day possession at the lake even though you fish consecutive days. 17 QUARRY LAKES Trout Dominate Early Spring Sport FREMONT – Trout remain the main quarry in the Quarry Lakes Recreation Area, but you can expect the catfish and black bass action to pick up as the weather warms up. The park district planted 750 pounds of rainbows in Horseshoe Lake and the CDFW stocked 1000 pounds of rainbows the week of March 4 to 8. Anglers are tossing out nightcrawlers, PowerBait, Rooster Tail spinners., Mice Tails, Rapalas and other offerings to entice the trout. Big fish honors go to Robert M of Hayward, who caught a seven-and-three- quarter-pound trout using a Kastmaster from Fishermen’s Row. Jack A. of Hayward caught and released a six-and-a-half pound trout from a boat using a rainbow runner lure. Nick P. of Hayward caught two trout weighing five pounds and six-and-a-half pounds. He was fishing form the cove near the swim beach with a spoon. Ron K. of Newark caught his limit on trout from Fisherman’s Row using rainbow PowerBait. Eight-year-old Pedro I. of Newark caught four trout for a combined weight of four-and-a-half pounds from Fisherman’s Row using PowerBait.
