FRESHWATER
REPORTS:
Conditions will only improve as the area
will soon see several consecutive days of
70-degree temperatures.
If you’ve got a kayak and can access the
sloughs, you’ll find bluegill and crappie to
be plentiful right now. Anglers are having
success with small Keitechs, mini jigs, and
minnows.
“The crappie bite is hot,” said Myskey.
Two-pounders aren’t outside of the norm,
and crappie jigs of various colors seem
to be working in addition to swim jigs and
bobbers.
The water’s clear and levels are optimal,
and preparations are being made for two
big tournaments: the Costa FLW Series
from May 16-18 and the Clearlake Oaks –
Glenhaven Catfish Derby from May 17-19.

Trollers Haul In Kokanee
Limits
SMARTVILLE – If you want to catch a
10 fish limit of delicious-tasting kokanee
salmon, it’s hard to beat fishing at Bullards
Bar Reservoir.
”Bullards was kind to me on my last
trip to the lake,” said Robert Collier on
the California Inland Kokanee and Land
Locked Salmon Facebook page. “I limited
out before noon while fishing by the dam.
I fished the top 20 feet of water with a 100’
set back while using pink & orange PPT
gear.”
“Also, the corn I was using was 4 weeks
old. Both garlic and tuna are still working
just fine. Use good Tupperware and keep
it in the fridge. I love this time of year,” he
concluded.
Bullards Bar Reservoir is holding
859,930-acre feet of water, 88 percent of
capacity and 117 percent of average.
Anglers are picking up big rainbows
and an occasional brown while trolling
or bait fishing from a boat at Englebright
Reservoir. “The marina released the trout
out of the pens and anglers are picking
up these fish,” said Craig Newton at
Willfish Bait and Tackle in Auburn. “One
customer landed a 5-pound trout while
trolling a Spinner Bug.”
Englebright is holding 72,509-acre feet
of water, 102 percent of capacity and
107percent of average.

OREGON HOUSE – Trollers are doing
the best on rainbow trout at Collins Lake
at this time, but bank fishermen are also
picking up plenty of fish.
“Anglers are catching lots of trout on
Collins Lake,” said Lakota Martin at
Collins Lake Resort, “but black bass and
crappie are also hitting with the warmer
weather. We’ve weighed in 14 trout over 5
pounds over the past couple of weeks.”
Big fish honors go to Joe and Sue
O’Brien, who teamed up to bag a 7.5 lb.
rainbow while trolling a firetiger lure at 15
feet deep. Ben and Asaro also caught a
7.5 lb. rainbow while trolling an Arctic Fox
fly.
Cassie White of Oroville demonstrated
her bank fishing prowess by landing a 6.5
lb. rainbow trout while soaking Power Bait.
Don Nelson of Elk Grove landed a 5-3/4
lb. trout while fishing a swimbait at 12 feet
near the power lines.
“Boaters are hooking a lot of crappie
and bass in the channel while tossing out
Kastmasters,” she added.
The lake is full and spilling 1 inch over
the spillway. The water temperature is 57
degrees.
