orthern and Central California offers up a long list
great bass and trout fishing lakes. The Rocky
Mountain Recreation Company has taken over
the operation of several Northern and Central
California lakes over the past few years and they
are doing an outstanding job of providing quality
fishing and exceptional facilities for north state
fishing enthusiasts.
Rocky Mountain Recre-
ation is a leader in the
management of parks,
marinas and recreational facil-
ities. You should plan on visiting
one, more or all of their Norcal
lakes this spring! Let’s take a
brief look at each of their four
north state destinations.
Rancho Seco
Rancho Seco Recreational Area
is a 400-acre park overflowing
with recreational opportunities
including camping, boating, fishing,
swimming and wildlife viewing. The
160-acre lake is fed by the Folsom
South Canal and is a great year-round
day or overnight getaway located in California’s Central Valley, just
25 miles from downtown Sacramento.
You may launch an electric motor boat, rowboat or sailboat from
the two ramps located at each end of the dam. Ramp hours coincide
with facility hours. Kayaks, Row Boats, Stand Up Paddleboards,
Electric powered fishing boats are available
on a seasonal basis. Windsurfers are also
welcome on the lake.
This fresh water lake is a habitat for bass,
bluegill, red ear sunfish, crappie and catfish.
Rainbow trout are stocked in the lake January
through March. Fishing licenses are required
and can be purchased at the lake office.
Fishing piers allow access for those with
disabilities. The annual trout derby is held in
the spring and is always a popular event.
Lake Del Valle
Del Valle Lake is located 10 miles south
of Livermore off Interstate 580 in the San
Francisco East Bay area. The lake is
surrounded by over 5,000 acres of beautiful
oak-covered hills at an altitude of 745 feet.
The lake stretches for 5 miles and has 16 miles
of shoreline.
Fishing is excellent at Del Valle Lake. Regular
trout plants take place from October through May
by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
In addition, East Bay Regional Park District has a
supplement fishing program, which promotes the
stocking of trout from the fall until spring and catfish
in the summer.
Other species of fish include Black Bass, Large-
mouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Striped Bass,
Sturgeon, Salmon, Crappie, Bluegill and variety of
pan fish, which bite throughout the year.
San Pablo Reservoir
The San Pablo Reservoir Recreation Area offers
exciting outdoor activities including fishing, boating,
picnicking, kayaking and hiking. The park also has
facilities for group events, weddings and meetings.
San Pablo Recreation Area is located off San Pablo
Dam Road between Orinda and El Sobrante. The
park is open from February 6 through November 30.
San Pablo Reservoir is known as one of the finest
fisheries in the East Bay. The visitor center offers
fishing licenses for sale and a wide array of bait
and tackle. The lake is stocked regularly with trout
and catfish. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff

fishing and boating needs. They know the best
fishing spots and can help you catch the BIG ONE!

facility that can accommodate motor boats and
kayak/canoe launching. All boats must be inspected
prior to launching. Launch open 7 days a week.
Shadow Cliffs
Shadow Cliffs is situated only a mile from
downtown Pleasanton on Stanley Boulevard.
Swimming, fishing and non-motorized boats are
allowed at the park.
The park was formerly a gravel quarry and was
donated to the Park District; 266-acres have been
developed with an 80-acre lake, parking and picnic
grounds. An arroyo with a chain of smaller lakes and
ponds provide retreats on hot summer days.
Trout fishing is outstanding in the main lake during
the cool water months. When things heat up so does
the catfish and bass action.
Lake Pardee
Pardee Recreation Area has been creating positive
memories for visitors since its opening in 1958.
From fishing to hiking, Pardee Recreation Area
offers an abundance of activities to keep even the
most active groups busy over a long weekend. Over
100 campsites, each with a fire pit and picnic table,
are located within the park, interspersed with incred-
ible oak trees that provide plenty of shade for the
sites. Two swimming pools, several day use areas,
boat rentals, fishing and breathtaking hiking trails
make this park full of adventure and areas to explore.
The park is also home to several friends including
wild turkeys, deer and various fish species. To fuel
visitors’ adventures, the Lake Pardee Cafe offers
tasty breakfast and lunch options and the best 50/50
Freeze you’ll find.
As the center of EBMUD’s drinking supply, to
comply with state law, personal water crafts, water
skiing, and lake swimming are not permitted.
