Powers put his seven clients onto
limits of everything: rockfish, ling od,
and Dungeness crab.
The following day was more of the
same with 12 limits of rockfish and
limits of crab along with 4 lingcod.
Powers will be taking the rockfish/
crab combination trips through May
17th, but he will add salmon to his
combination trips along with rockfish
and the occasional pulling of the crab
pots.
On his last trip, Powers said, “The
ocean looks ‘juicy’ south of the harbor
below Tomales Point. ‘Juicy’ is a
captain’s way of saying, “All of the
conditions are right for salmon: bait,
birds, whales, and brown water.”
On the private boat front, Dr. James
Hayes of Acampo took his new 25.5-foot
Gray White named ‘Ol Doc’ in memory
of his father out for three limits of
rockfish and two lings to 15 pounds. He
said, “The big ling was a hitchhiker on
a rockfish on the way up. The rockfish
were good quality
with some coppers
in the mix.”

Sport Fishing said, “Our boat
is now in the water, and we are
looking forward to the restart of the
ocean salmon season this coming
Monday. I received a report this
morning from Jeff Carmella on the
Samantha Irene, and he reported
great ocean conditions with whales
and anchovies south of Tomales
Point. We will be running salmon
and rockfish trips on the 34-foot
catamaran, the Reel Magic.”

SAN FRANCISCO – Live bait
drifters are landing halibut and
striped bass in big numbers on San
Francisco Bay.
On May 11, the Bass Tub returned
to Fisherman’s Wharf with 11 halibut
and 13 striped bass for 10 anglers.
It was special birthday party trip with
Aaron Anfinson, captain of the Bass
Tub.

“Anglers and crews this week did a great job of
making the best of the day, even with some rough
weather and inconsistent fishing, which is not rare
for this time of year,” reported Tracy Ehrenberg of
Pisces Sportfishing.
“What did help though was that the tuna
numbers still held this week, and we saw a spike
in dorado catches compared really, to the rest of
the year so far. We had seen only 1 or 2 dorado
caught per week total, whereas this week we saw
a total of 18 dorado caught by our crews. Inshore
fishing is still producing nice fish, with roosterfish
still around, along with yellowtail, sierra, bonita,
red snapper and others. A few nice wahoo made
the catches this week too. Marlin have been
“fussy eaters” this week. Crews often saw them
and pitched baits, but there was not much interest
on their part; and it was difficult getting them to
bite on the troll as well. With this said, our top
marlin boat this week released 3 striped marlin in
