CLEAR LAKE
Largemouths Hit an Array of
Baits
CLEARLAKE – The largemouth bass
fishing has been up and down with the
storms that moved through the Clear Lake
watershed this May.
“On my last trip before the storms
arrived, two of us caught and released
about a dozen bass,” said Tom Guercio
of Tom’s Guide Service. “The fish ranged
from 2 to 4.76 pounds. They hit Senkos,
frogs, and jigs in the south end of the lake
in the Rattlesnake arm.
Guercio also reported catching and
releasing a a 12 and 15 pound catfish on
a Senko that day.
On his latest adventure, Guercio
reported catching a limit of largemouths
in the 2 pound class while fishing Senkos
and spinnerbaits, also in the south end.
“The weather keeps changing,” he
noted. “The water temperature was 65
degrees today and it was 70 degrees last
week. The wind was coming out of the
south with whitecaps and swells. I caught
four bass in the first hour while using
black and blue Senkos and half ounce
white spinnerbait with willow blades in 0
to 8 feet.”
The catfish are becoming quite active
now. For example, one angler reported
landing a 20 lb. channel catfish while
fishing a crappie jig on 4 lb. test line.
For crappie, shore anglers should fish
small jigs and swimbaits at Lakeport, the

COLLINS LAKE
Lots of Smiles and Lots of
Fish
OREGON HOUSE - What brings you
happiness? There’s lots of smiling faces
up here at Collins Lake - lots of kids
catching fish with grandparents, mom
or dad. There’s plenty of retired folks
catching their trout limits with their spouse
& their buddies.
Many familiar faces come to camp
this time of year, often for a week at a
time, and usually timed so they can be
neighbors with other families who have
enjoyed this lake year after year.! Whether
it’s here or anywhere, make time for
happiness, for your own, for those who go
before you & for those who follow you.
It has been a solid consistent week for
trout, with many people catching their
limits and quite a few fish over five pounds
being caught. Trolling 20-30 ft. continues
to be a good strategy with bright Rapalas
still producing but we’re seeing fish come
up on just about anything, including
speedy shiners and flashers & worms.
Many of these catches aren’t just one
