CONTINUED FROM PG 11 FEATHER RIVER cont. release a 32 lb. striped bass during a trip to the Feather River with Rob Reimer of Rustic Rob’s Guide Service. “The big fish, a female, had already spawned,” said Reimers. “We got her back in the water right way and she swam away.” “We caught a total of 15 fish, including 8 keepers. They kept four stripers in the 19 to 24 inch range. We drifted live extra- large minnows in the Boyd’s Pump area.” The fishing was slower on his latest adventure. “The river came up a couple of feet since our previous trip and the fishing was slower. Still, my clients, Jay and Cecil, landed limits of stripers in the 18 to 22 inch while fishing in the Boyd’s Pump area,” said Reimers. Most people continue to concentrate on stripers, but shad are also available for anglers tossing out darts, jigs, grubs and flies on the Feather. - Dan Bacher KNIGHTS LANDING/ COLUSA Stripers Bend Rods at Mouth of Feather FOLSOM LAKE Trout Fishing Is Hit and Miss FOLSOM – Rainbow trout and king salmon fishing is inconsistent on Folsom Lake, with hot fishing one day followed by slow fishing the next. “Fishing was hot on my first trip,” said James Netzel of Tight Lines Guide Service. “The three anglers fishing with me landed 18 rainbows and 3 kings while trolling red/gold Speedy Shiners.” “We trolled from 20 to 35 feet deep, but the 30 to 35 foot depth was best. The rainbows averaged 14 to 16 inches and went up to 18 inches, while the kings ranged from 18 to 22 inches.” However, fishing slowed down on the next two trolling adventures, with one trip producing 8 fish and the next yielding just four fish. Netzel is now concentrating on kokanee fishing at Stampede Lake, with limits of quality fish reported every trip. Jerry Lampkin of TNG Motor Sports made a trip to Folsom that produced 6 rainbows to 17-1/2 inches for two anglers. “We trolled all over the lake at 25 feet deep,” said Lampkin. “We hooked two on the North Fork, two near the boat ramp and two on the South Fork. Four of the fish hit Speedy Shiners and the other two hit GVS pina colada lures. We also lost four fish, including a king salmon.” Bass fishing reports from Folsom have been scarce lately. However, Ryu and Isaac rounded up limits of rainbow trout while fishing Los Vaqueros Reservoir this spring. Photo courtesy of the LOS VAQUEROS RECREATION AREA, Los Vaqueros Reservoir. Don Paganelli of Don’s Bass Fishing Experience said the action should be “really good” now for a mixture of spotted, largemouth and smallmouth bass. “Fish the top 10 feet of water with swimbaits and tubes” advised Paganelli. “There are probably still both fish on and off the spawning beds.” Folsom Lake is holding 939,726 acer feet of water , 96 percent of capacity and 115 percent of the 10 year average. The water level is 462.64 feet in elevation, 3.36 feet from maximum pool. - Dan Bacher KLAMATH/TRINITY RIVERS Anglers Get Ready for Springer Opener on July 1 SACRAMENTO – Anglers are gearing up for the opening of spring Chinook fishing on the Klamath and Trinity rivers on July 1.
