Nor Cal Trout Anglers Challenge
When The Going Gets
Tough, Break Out
The Dick Nites!
ack when I did most of my fishing
with a fly rod, my strategy when
confronted with finicky pressured trout
was to go smaller. If a size 10 fly spooked
the rainbows, they’d likely be suckers for
a No. 16 or 18 fly. And the same sort of
thinking can be applied to trout fishing in
lakes and reservoirs with traditional gear.
When the water is clear, fishing
pressure is heavy and the trout are spooky
one of the lures that I rely on are Dick
Nite Spoons in the small sizes. For the
uninitiated, Dick Nites are thin bladed
wobbling spoons that do an exceptional
job of imitating baitfish. These spoons
come in a range of sizes from super tiny
to about 2 7/8 inches long.
When the going gets tough rig a tiny
chrome Dick Nite on a 4 pound test fluo-
rocarbon leader add a split shot 36 inches
above the spoon and top line troll it at 1
mph 100 feet behind the boat.
If you’re not fishing from a boat, you
can make the same basic presentation
from the banking using a clear water filled
bobber just like you’d use for tossing a
woolly bugger.
Fire the bobber rig as far as possible and
slow roll that little Dick Nite right back to
your feet. You’ll be amazed at the results.
If you really want to amaze your friends,
rig up like this in the spring and you can
catch limits of kokanee from the bank at
places like Stampede Reservoir!
If you plan on hitting a stream or two
this fall, don’t leave those tiny Dick Nites
home, but you’re not going to be using
them like you’d use other spoons.
Tiny Dick Nites are a secret big trout
lure for stream anglers that drift them
much like you’d dead drift a salmon egg.
That’s right, they don’t cast and retrieve
their Dick Nites, them toss them up and
across and allow them to drift, setting the
hook at the slightest provocation.
The theory is that big fish see the
flashing helpless spoon, assume it’s a
tiny fish and pounce on it before it has a
chance to get away!

Gone Fishin’ Marine Provides 14’ Tracker Prize
For NorCal Trout Anglers Challenge Tour!
W
ithout a long list of loyal
sponsor there wouldn’t be
a NorCal Trout Anglers Challenge
Tournament Tour. Along these lines,
Vince Harris of Angler’s Press and
the rest of the NorCal Trout Anglers
Tournament Tour team would like
to give the folks at Gone Fishin’
Marine of Dixon a big THANK YOU
for providing the tour with a 14’
Tracker Boat complete with a 9.9
horse motor and trailer.
The boat will be given away during
the NorCal Trout Anglers Challenge
Championship at Collins Lake this
November 3 & 4!
It’s says
something about the
success and future
of the tour when
one of the nation’s
premier boat
dealers recognizes
the value of spon-
soring NTAC events.
Not only do these events provide
family fun, but they are also making
strides to insure the future of the
sport, by getting youngsters involved
in fishing. The leadership at Gone
Fishin’ Marine recognizes the
importance of grass roots endeavors
like the NTAC Tour. Whether you
are looking for a new or used boat,
boating accessories or maintenance
or repair, please keep the folks at
Gone Fishin Marina in mind. They
support north state anglers, so let’s
support them in return!
About Tracker Boats
Gone Fishin’ Marine offers a
lot of different boat lines. In fact,
if it floats there is a pretty good
chance you’ll find it at Gone
Fishin’s Dixon headquarters.
Here in the Sacramento Valley,
Gone Fishin’ Marine is an official
Tracker Boat dealer.
Tracker Boats are among the
most rugged fishing machines on
the water.
Beneath
the surface
of every
Tracker Mod
V and Deep
V boat is a
full-length
longitudinal
stringer
system, which provides the
backbone of support for the hull
running surface below and the
deck above. Aluminum extrusions,
for extra strength and rigidity, are
welded in a chevron pattern along
both sides of the bow and serve to
distribute the energy produced by
crashing through waves.
Welded, heavy-duty box beams
and formed parts make up the
stringer, a ladder-like frame that
extends further into the hull than on
most competitor boats. The stringer
is securely welded to the transom,
along the hull sides and into the
bow. Then, fore and aft bulkheads,
which support the seats and deck,
are welded to both the hull sides
and stringer, forming a super-strong
unitized structure that absorbs the
pounding of the waves and forces
created by today’s high-output
motors, while also maintaining a
solid and true running surface for
optimum overall performance and
control.
Gone Fishin’ Marine is located at
1880 N. Lincoln St. in Dixon, Ca.
