tough bite for largemouth bass with a variety of techniques.
Steve Santucci of Steve Santucci’ s Fly Fishing Guide Service reported some great topwater action on Wednesday for bass in the 2- to 4-pound range. He said,‘ Stripers are coming and going so we will have fish until the end of June as the water temperatures are still OK for the linesides.”

EASTERN SIERRA
Anglers Cope With High Water Conditions
BRIDGEPORT-“ Bridgeport Reservoir has toughened up a bit from the shore but the boat anglers are still doing very well,” reported Jim Reid at Ken’ s Sporting Goods.“ Trolling has been great with Rapalas, Tasmanian Devils and Speedy Shiners, bait anglers are doing good with Mice Tails, night crawlers and PowerBait. The weather has put off the fly anglers a bit but stripping streamers has produced some fish here and there, when the weather warms up a bit look forward to stillwater nymphing for some good fishing. Early and late in the
Marabella bagged this husky rainbow trout while soaking bait at Los Vaqueros Reservoir on May 8.

day there are some fish being caught from shore casting lures, and during the day there are still some nice fish being caught from the shore with bait though it doesn’ t seem to be quite as good as last weekend. This also may improve when the weather clears out.”
“ The East Walker has been bumped up to about 625 cfs this week, it’ s running pretty fast but there are still a few anglers getting into some nice fish. With the higher flows you need to be very careful wading. Streamers still seem to be the ticket for the most strikes though we have had one or two decent reports on nymphs. The upper mile section is probably the best section to fish on the California side, below the bridge gets pretty choppy with the higher flows and of course has a lot more brush and willows to contend with. Patterns to try include: zuddler, dead drift crayfish, double bunny, sculpzilla, jj special, prince nymph, micro stone, pheasant tail and soft hackles,” tipped Reid.
“ Twin Lakes have been a little hit and miss this past week, we’ ve had quite a few very good reports but also some not so good reports. We talked to a few anglers who were able to get into some nice browns in the 3 to 6 pound range by trolling deep with either lead core rigs or downriggers. It seems that getting deep is going to increase your odds a great deal right now as a lot of fish are hanging out between 40 and 80 feet down. There has been some success by anglers slinging lures and bait from the shore, the best times seem to be early morning and late evening,” concluded Reid.
FEATHER RIVER
Striper Fishing Tapers Off
YUBA CITY- After an excellent striped bass season on the Feather River, the action has tapered off with the reduction in releases from Lake Oroville to the Feather River.
“ After the Department of Water Resources dropped the flows, the water temperature warmed up and the fish began to spawn,” said Manuel Saldana, Jr., of MSJ Guide Service.“ The fishing has slowed down, now that the fish are spawning.”
“ On my latest trip to the Feather before the bite slowed down, three anglers caught their limits of stripers by 10:45 am, as well as releasing shakers,” said Saldana.“ Most of the fish are in the 18-1 / 2 to 20 inch range, with a few larger fish mixed in. I have been drifting jumbo minnows in the Boyd’ s Pump and Yuba City areas.”
After the Feather bite got tough, Saldana headed over to the Sacramento River at Tisdale.“ We caught our limits of schoolie stripers by 10:45 a. m. while drifting jumbo

FOLSOM LAKE
Anglers Working For Their Bass
SACRAMENTO – Bass fishing at Folsom Lake has tapered from the hot action of a couple of weeks ago as the fish recover from the spawn.
“ The fishing is on and off and there are a lot of small fish showing,” advised Don Paganelli of Paganelli’ s Bass Fishing Experience.“ To target the quality fish, your best bet is to hit the lake early in the morning and fish off the points.”
On his latest trip, three anglers fishing for a half day caught and released 10 bass while dragging Carolina-rigged Aaron’ s Magic Robo worms“ really slow,” said Paganelli. The fish, a mixture of smallmouth and largemouth bass up to 2 pounds, hit in 5 to 15 feet of water.
All five boat ramps are currently open. The Folsom Lake Marina staff continued to urge caution when boating on the lake:“ While State Parks has contracted for the clean up of debris, it will remain a problem until the lake has reach its full pool. Launching or retrieving your boat at the ramps may be a problem.”
“ If your boat has a stainless steel prop you need to be extra careful. An aluminum
prop will bend and break, but with a stainless steel prop the lower unit will break,” they said.
Folsom Lake’ s water level is 458.90 feet in elevation, 7.1 feet from maximum pool. The reservoir is holding 899,053 acre-feet of water, 92 percent of capacity and 112 percent of average. The surface water temperature at the marina is 71.0 degrees.
LAFAYETTE RESERVOIR
Channel Catfish Plants Begin!
LAFAYETTE – Desert Springs has stocked the last trout plant of the year, 500 pounds, in Lafayette Reservoir. The catfish season has begun, with the CDFW delivering 1400 pounds of channel catfish to the lake.
The water temperature is 70.4o @ 6 feet and 57.6o @ 20 feet, due to the current warming trend, reported Jaquelyn Lovelace of Lafayette Reservoir. Expect to catch the trout in deeper water, now that the surface water temperature has warmed up.
“ Fish all day with nightcrawlers and PowerBait in chartreuse, orange, or pink glitter and garlic,” she tipped.
Catfish offer the top fishing at the reservoir now. Anglers should fish midday to evening with mackerel, anchovies, nightcrawlers and other baits from midday to evening in the coves
Black bass fishing is best for anglers tossing out large worms or plastics.
