T he port closed for 3 days due to wind just as fishing was starting to pick up ,” related Captain Jack Chapman of JC Sportfishing . “ Luckily things have calmed down at this point . Hopefully we are in for a stretch of good conditions .” “ The first sailfish of the season caught last week and I remember last year we had some good action on the sailfish for a couple months .

The marlin fishing has definitely been affected by the wind this past week . Not only the marlin , but every other species has been slowed down by the gusty winds . Not any big number of marlin being landed but a few from the 95 Spot to Grey Rock , with most being landed on live bait and lures . Really nothing like the week before when we even caught some blue and black marlin ,” reported Chapman .
“ A few dorado are starting to show up as we landed some really nice ones this past week . We spotted some floating trash and it was making some shade for some really nice dorados and we landed 4 from 25 pounds to 35 pounds , but in general it has been slow as they just haven ’ t shown up this year yet and I am starting to wonder if the commercial fishing boats are harvesting too many dorado ,” Chapman speculated . “ Tuna are pretty much scattered out and you have to keep a keen eye out for them . Tuna fishing has slowed big time with most being caught tight to the beach and they are in the football size range . If you try from the Light House all the way to San Jose you might run into some decent Tuna bites , but I don ’ t think you will get any real big fish ,” Chapman asserted .

The braid-ready spool has line capacity rings to let the angler know how much line remains on the spool during the heat of battle . Lugs keep the reel securely fastened to the angler or boat with switchable lugs available on the size 60LD2 . Spool capacities of the Fathom LD and LD2 range from 355 yards of 12-pound test monofilament or 550 yards of 20-pound test braid on the size 15 , to 480 yards of 40-pound test monofilament or 995 yards of 65-pound test braid on the size 60 .
