Halibut Hot, Salmon Up And
Down

anglers are enjoying great action. The best
halibut fishing in years is taking place in
San Francisco Bay. The salmon bite has
been slow one day, fair the next and red
hot the day after that. And there are some
very nice salmon up to and beyond the 20
pound mark in the mix.
Berkeley’s New Easy Rider with
Captains Joe and Joey Gallia at the helm
have been splitting their time between
salmon and halibut fishing. Salmon scores
have been fluctuating from well over a fish
per rod to well under a fish per rod.
On the halibut front the scores have
been much more consistent. For example,
on the New Easy Rider’s most recent live
bait potluck trip, 12 anglers rounded up 12
halibut to 22 pounds and 3 keeper bass.
“Over the past couple days, we’ve seen
the halibut scores drop off a bit with less
than one keeper per rod hitting the box, but
the average size of the keepers has gone
way up,” reported Captain James Smith of
Berkeley’s California Dawn. “Today we had
19 halibut and 2 bass for 20 plus anglers.
