Almanor‘ Bows Continue To Cooperate, Bucks‘ Koke Bite Hot

CHESTER- High mountain trollers continue to score at both Almanor and Bucks Lake. The trout bite at Almanor is definitely slowing down a bit, but that isn’ t stopping anglers from landing trout in the 3 to 4 pound class. At Bucks, it’ s not whether you’ ll get a limit of kokanee, but how quickly you can round up limits.

Bryan Roccucci of Big Daddy’ s Guide Service has been spending a lot of his time at Bucks, but he’ s still visiting Almanor too. His approach at Almanor has changed little over the past month. The trout are feeding heavily in insects, so he is slow trolling naked crawlers near the bottom in various areas around the lake.

Most of the trout that Roccucci’ s clients land are rainbows, but some browns are still showing up occasionally.

At Buck’ s Lake trollers are focusing on kokanee that range from 12 to 13 inches, but there have been some bonus macks

Shad Fishing Sizzles In Upper River

SACRAMENTO- The upper section of the lower American River from Sunrise Dam to Nimbus Dam continues to kick out big numbers of hard-fighting shad.

“ Anglers are still hooking lots of shad,” said Alan Fong of the Fisherman’ s Warehouse.“ There are still plenty of fish in the system this July. Most are females in the 2 to 3 lb. range and many are spawned out.”

Quality Largemouths Feed At High Noon

WINTERS- The solid bass fishing continues for boaters fishing the full waters of Lake Berryessa.

“ Yesterday I took a father and his 15 yr old son to Berryessa and we had a fairly good post-spawn trip,” said Larry Hemphill, fishing guide.“ Conditions were a little tough with a bluebird sky and calm water. The wind came up as we going back to Markley.”

“ The son struggled to catch many bass, but dad did well, since this was his first real bass trip. He caught several bass including the biggest largemouth of the day- at 4 + pounds. When? 12 noon of course,” said Hemphill.

“ I caught a largemouth weighing 3-1 / 2 lbs at 1 pm. It’ s funny now that many postspawn quality bass will feed at noon. Even though we fished the narrows a lot and some of the west side of main body, they only caught two 2 lb smallies and a few undersize spots. Most of our quality bass
