HALF MOON BAY cont. that are mooching now. The Red Buoy
has been the top location for the kayaks. Private boaters have been finding limits in the late afternoons between the buoys – they aren’ t quick and easy, but they can be found. We went north above Pedro Point on this week, and there were a number of fish taken right off of the Silver Saddle outside of Thornton Beach. The Golden Gate Fleet was concentrating in this area. There are salmon from the surfline at Surfer’ s Beach north to Miramar,” said Baxter.

outside of the harbor, and Baxter thought this was a good option for private boaters to make a few drifts after putting together rockfish limits. A 30.9- pound halibut was landed by Hadi Tahai of Redwood City outside of the Red Can along with 23 salmon for 14 anglers on the New Captain Pete this week.

Boaters Bag Lingcod Limits Off Point Sur
MOSS LANDING – The lingcod bite at Point Sur is still wide-open, reported Carol Jones at Kahuna Sportfishing. The last trip to the Big Sur Coast yielded limits of lingcod for 26 anglers up to 18 pounds.
The 26 anglers landed 82 assorted rockfish, 55 vermilion rockfish, 52 lingcod, 20 canary rockfish, 3 cabezon and 38 copper rockfish. A local bottomfish adventure on July 8 produced 150 rockfish, full limits for 15 fishermen.
The Kahuna has also been making halibut trips on Monterey Bay.“ On our latest bay trip, we landed two halibut to 30 pounds and had to throw back 9 shakers.

The boats out of Chris’ Fishing Trips in Monterey reported great fishing also. For example, the 18 anglers aboard the Checkmate reported in on July 8 with ¾ limits of rockfish and 36 lingcod( limits) for 18 anglers.
The 33 anglers aboard the Star of Monterey checked in with 300 rockfish for 33 anglers. The 14 anglers aboard the Caroline the day before landed limits of rockfish, 1 lingcod and 4 horse mackerel.
Trollers continue to bag some quality Chinook salmon inside Monterey Bay.
“ The salmon fishing remained the same with some boats catching their limits and others catching 1-3 fish,” reported Todd Fraser of Bayside Marine in Santa Cruz on Sunday, July 9.“ The majority of the action was straight out of Santa Cruz in 110-140 feet of water. There were some limits caught straight out in 160-220 feet of water.”
“ The salmon are still feeding on anchovies so green lures and Krippled Anchovies have been the best bet,” noted Fraser.
“ There were some nice halibut caught in Capitola due to the recent squid spawn from Pajaro to Moss Landing. The rock fishing was good up the coast but there was some wind
near Año Nuevo.”
“ The inshore fishing for the beach anglers was good at New Brighton. The wind was down all morning, but it did blow hard at noon,” Fraser explained.
“ The few boats who have tried to go look for albacore have been blown out before they got to the break,” he concluded.

Stripers Invade The Beaches!
SAN FRANCISCO-A large number of striped bass have moved in along Pacifica and Ocean Beaches while others fan cast the surf for perch.
Hair raisers, Miki Jigs and topwater lures were the top recommendation this week for striped bass along the surf, according to Stefanie Scott at Gus’ Discount Bait and Tackle.
“ It was like a light switch! One week they were catching one here and there, and by mid last week everyone was out there 24 / 7 catching a striper,” he exclaimed.
“ There’ s been guys fishing long shifts, from sun up to sun down just to catch the perfect time when they move in,” she added.
Perch fishing is also a good bet, with anglers working both Baker and Ocean Beaches with shrimp or pile worms.“ They’ re also catching stripers on the shrimp and worms,” she added.
