colored plastic worms are the baits
of choice. Look for the bass to be
holding around main points in the
Sacramento and McCloud River
Arms.
Shasta is currently 14 feet from
maximum pool and dropping about 4
inches per day.
At Whiskeytown the kokanee
fishing is very good. Trollers have
been getting easy limits of fat,
healthy 15 to 17 inch fish while
fishing near the bridge. Depending
on the time of day, the fish will be
holding from 35 to 60 feet deep and
they will hit a variety of corn tipped
lures. A number of anglers reporting
doing well with Paulina Peak dodger
teamed with micro hoochies, while
other enjoy success pulling pink or
orange Apex Lures.
Tim caught and released this feisty largemouth bass while fishing at Los
Vaqueros Reservoir this July.

Catfish Go On The Prowl
LIVERMORE – The trout bite
has slowed down because of the
heat, while anglers report fishing
for catfish has picked up with limits
being caught around the lake.
Cody of Livermore landed 2
catfish totaling 10 lbs. Cody was
using chicken livers by the marina,
according to Joe Sullivan of the East
Bay Regional Park District. Sam of
Pleasanton caught his limit of catfish
out on his boat while using mackerel
for bait.
Rich Lei of Livermore caught 3
catfish left of the 1st dock. Romy
of Livermore landed 2 catfish while
bait fishing by the marina. Another
fisherman caught 5 catfish while
fishing chicken livers left of the boat
launch.
The best bass action has been
reported out of the Arroyo ponds.
One fisherman caught and released
7 largemouths while float tubing in
the arroyo and using Senkos.
The water temperature is 75
degrees, depending on depth. The
water visibility varies between 10-15
feet.

REDDING - Trolling has been very
productive for north state anglers
targeting both trout and salmon. At
Shasta, the rainbow bite is going
well. At Whiskeytown outstanding
kokanee action is available early in
the day.
At Shasta, the rainbows are
holding in deep water. Angler are
targeting rainbows holding from 60
to 75 feet deep. The fish average
rainbow runs from 14 to 17 inches,
but fish to 3 plus pounds are
showing daily.
For the ‘bows, Wiggle Hoochies
in shad colors, Apex Lures and shad
imitating spoons like Hum Dingers
and Cripplures are the ticket. Several
areas in the main body and lower
ends of the arms are producing trout.
One of the hottest spots has been
the I-5 Bridge.
Bass fishing at Shasta ranges
from fair to good depending on
the day. Early and late topwaters,
swimbaits and rip baits draw strikes.

SOUTHERN
OREGON ROUNDUP
Trout Take Center Stage
ROSEBERG - The Oregon
Department of Fish and Wildlife
reports that thousands of 15-
inch and larger “trophy trout” are
available in waters throughout
Oregon and these southwest lakes
and reservoirs: Applegate Reservoir,
Lost Creek Reservoir, Fish Lake,
Garrison Lake, Floras Lake, Libby
Pond, Bradley Lake, Lower Empire
Lake, Upper Empire Lake, Johnson’s
Mill Pond, Powers Pond, Ben
Irving Reservoir, Bowman Pond,
Clearwater Bay-2, Cooper Creek
Reservoir, Hemlock Lake, Lake in
the wood, Lemolo Reservoir, Lake
Marie and Red Top Lake.
Last fall Howard Prairie Reservoir
was stocked with over 150,000
six-inch trout, followed by 10,000
legal-sized trout this spring. These
fish are 10 to 14 inches now, and
are growing quickly on the abundant
food available. In addition, holdover
trout up to 20-inches still being
caught.
Most trout anglers have been
still fishing, and most are using
PowerBait. Trout were caught by
boat anglers all around the lake on
Sunday. Still fishing was productive
at Buck Island, Red Rocks, and in
the even in the more shallow areas
of the reservoir upstream of Grizzly
Campground. Some limits were
caught upstream of Grizzly, and
at least one angler recommended
adding some movement to the bait in
and among the vegetation to entice
trout to strike. Bank anglers caught
trout at the marina jetty, but trout
fishing was poor for bank anglers
near the Willow Point boat ramp.
The lake is 96 percent full. Water
clarity was better in the upper half of
the reservoir compared to the Buck
Island area.
At Diamond Lake, trout fishing has
been excellent. A significant portion
of fish caught have been larger than
12-inches. Trolling lures and bottom
fishing with PowerBait across all
depths continue to be productive
