Almanor Boots Out Rainbows To 5 Pounds

CHESTER - Trout fishing got off to a late start at Lake Almanor this spring and as a result the summer slowdown has been slow in coming . While it ’ s true that the fishing isn ’ t as good as it was a month ago , anglers are still finding solid big rainbow action while trolling deep water .

Bryan Roccucci of Big Daddy ’ s Guide Service has been slow trolling threaded night crawlers near the bottom in 25 to 35 feet or water for rainbows that average over 3 pounds and top out at over 5 . The trout are feeding on aquatic insects , but enough of them are willing to grab a worm to keep things very interesting .

Smallmouth fishing at the lake is slow overall , but anglers mooching crickets around rocky structure have been able to tempt bass up to about 3 pounds . Late in

behemoth catfish come to the surface ,” according to a Lake Amador Resort Facebook post . “ They figured it was in the 20 to 25 lb . class . The angler hooked the fish on a Texas-rigged plastic worm while night fishing for largemouths in the Carson Creek arm .”

Anglers are experiencing the top bass fishing at night while fishing dark plastic worms , jigs and top water lures . The 2017 Moonlighter Team Bass Tournament will be held on August 5 from 7:00 pm . to 7:00 am . More information : ( 209 ) 274-4739 .

During the day , bluegill are offering the top fishing . Anglers are picking up bluegill while using redworms , mealworms and golden grubs in the coves and around the docks . Fishing from a boat in the Mountain Springs area is particularly productive for sunfish , noted Debbie Grayson at the Lake Amador Resort .

Union Valley Trollers Nail Quality Kokanee

RIVERTON – Trollers using downriggers are experiencing “ really good ” kokanee salmon fishing at Union Valley Reservoir , revealed Alan Fong of Fisherman ’ s Warehouse .

“ Two friends of mine , Bob Reinhardt and John Montana , landed limits of kokanee in the 15 to 16 inch range on their latest trip to Union Valley ,” said Fong . “ They trolled at 35 feet deep near the pumps with pink hoochies , tipped with white shoepeg corn , behind dodgers .” Craig Newton of

Wally headed out to Lake Amador in search of bass this July and got a surprise when this huge 25 lb catfish inhaled his plastic worm . The fish was released after the photo was snapped .

Willfish Bait and Tackle in Auburn confirmed the great kokanee fishing at Union Valley , noting that one customer and his fishing buddy caught limits by 10 a . m . on his last trip to the lake . They used spinners , tipped with white corn , behind dodgers .

“ The fishing at French Meadows and Hell Hole has slowed down with the hot weather ,” Newton stated . “ Boaters trolling deep are catching some rainbows and browns at French Meadows . Trollers are also bagging some kokanee , browns and mackinaw at 35 feet deep at Hell Hole ”

Newton said fishing for browns and rainbows is good at Fuller Lake . “ One customer reported catching rainbows and a few browns in the 12 to 13 inch range while trolling nightcrawlers behind watermelon dodgers there ,” he stated .
