LAKE BERRYESSA
Trollers Battle Rainbows In Deep Water
WINTERS - Trollers going deep with downriggers are reeling in good numbers of rainbow trout at Lake Berryessa , in spite of all of the heavy recreational boating pressure on the reservoir in the hot summer weather . “ I haven ’ t been up to Berryessa over the past couple of weeks – I ’ ve been concentrating on rockfish and lingcod fishing off Bodega Bay ,” said Les Fernandes of Fish On Charters . “ However , the trout fishing has been good for trollers at Berryessa .”
“ A friend from Napa and his fishing partner landed limits of rainbows , ranging from 12 to 17 inches long , on their latest trip to the lake ,” said Fernandes . “ They trolled with Rainbow Runners at 30 feet deep on the main body .”
Rich Crispi , fishing guide , reported boating seven trout and 3 bass on a trolling adventure at Berryessa . Fishing with him were Kim Reese Petersen , Alex from first2fightboxing and Uli , one of the young kids that go to the boxing school
“ Fishing was not as good as hit as it has been , but we finally got into some fish after a slow start ,” he noted . “ We had a total of 14 grabs and lost two fish . The best depth was 52 feet deep .”
BULLARDS BAR / ENGLEBRIGHT LAKES
Boaters Nail Ten Fish Kokanee Limits
FRESHWATER
DOBBINS – Some of the fastest kokanee salmon fishing in the state is available at Bullards Bar Reservoir – and relatively few people are fishing for them .
“ Over the past two days , we caught our 10 fish limits of kokanee averaging 12 inches long ,” said Rob Reimers of Rustic Rob ’ s Guide Service . “ The fish are hitting at 35 feet deep in the main body of the lake . We ’ re fishing with Brad ’ s Kokanee Cut Plugs with tuna in oil soaked with Bloody Tuna scent . Of course , we ’ re tipping the hooks with white corn .”
The biggest kokanee he ’ s seen are going 12-1 / 2 to 13 inches long .
For kokanee , Alan Fong of Fisherman ’ s Warehouse in Sacramento recommended trolling with pink hoochies or Apex lures , tipped with white corn , at 35 feet in the lake near the dam .
Bullards Bar Reservoir is holding 896,728 acre-feet of water , 93 percent of capacity , and 113 percent of average .
Fishing pressure at Englebright Reservoir has been light lately , due to the big numbers of recreational boaters hitting the lake and the hot weather . Englebright is a sleeper for trollers to pursue beautiful holdover rainbows and a few wild German browns .

CAMANCHE LAKE
Bass , Crappie & Channel Cats on Summer Fling
BURSON - Most anglers are concentrating on black bass , crappie and channel catfish at Lake Camanche , due to the warm water temperatures .
EBMUD managed to keep Lake Camanche from spilling over once again and saving the lower valley from flooding . Lake Pardee has finally stopped spilling over their dam into Camanche from the spring runoff , reported Terry Willard of the Camanche Recreation Company .
Lake Camanche is currently 93 % of capacity with an elevation of approximately 231.70 ’ while releasing approximately 1,700 C . F . S .
“ Please note that the high water means that the ramps are a little flatter as it nears the top of the ramp and may be a harder to launch bigger , deeper boats ,” she stated .
Garrett Paz reported , “ For the last 2 months we have been catching close to or over 100 +

fish a day this . On our latest trip , we caught a 6 lb . largemouth on a swimbait . We have been catching bass crappie and catfish consistently .”
Al Sanchez of Sacramento brought in a chunky 2.71 lb . crappie . He didn ’ t list the location , but wrote he was using orange grub , noted Willard .
CARSON PASS
Caples Lake Delivers Browns , Mackinaws
PIONEER – Warmer water temperatures at Caples , Silver and Bear River lakes are driving the fish into deeper water , but boaters continue to nail some German Brown and mackinaw trout , along with planted rainbows .
Jan Riley of Lodi caught a 28-inch German brown while trolling a nightcrawler behind flashers , according to the Caples Lake Resort . Ken Salvi also landed a 4 lb . rainbow measuring 24 inches long while fishing a Wooly Booly fly near Emigrant Creek .
“ The trout fishing has slowed down ,” reported Karen Drummond at the Bear River Lake Resort . “ The water temperature has

warmed up and the fish have moved into deep water . For the rainbows , fish deep from boats and shore with bright colored PowerBaitand shiny spinners and spoons .”
Indian Creek Reservoir continues to yield solid rainbow and Lahontan cutthroat trout action for bank anglers are boaters fishing in the colder , deeper water near the dam .
“ Fish to 7 pounds are being taken in the early morning and evening hours ,” said Bruno Huff of the Alpine County Fish and Game Commission . “ We planted 1800 pounds of rainbows for a kids derby and the CDFW stocked a few hundred brood stock Lahontan cutthroat from Heenan .””
Trollers are using worms and Needlefish , while bait anglers fishing from boat and shore are throwing out mini-crawlers and PowerBait .
