fishing is open from Cape Falcon to Humbug Mountain. Anglers may have two salmon per day but is closed to retention of coho except during the selective and non-selective coho seasons.
Surfperch fishing has been good when ocean swells are small. Surfperch anglers will do the best fishing with sand shrimp or Berkley Gulp sand worms. Fishing is typically best on the incoming tide.
Recreational crabbing is open along the entire Oregon coast.
LAKE TAHOE
Macks Bite As Kokanee Bite Slowly Builds
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE- High Sierra action at Lake Tahoe has been great for mackinaw holding in deep water and more kokanee are beginning to show. It looks as if Tahoe anglers are in for an exciting August.
Gene St. Dennis of Blue Ribbon Charters reported limit style mack action on his most recent trip with lakers ranging up to 17 pounds. Minnows teamed with white dodgers were the ticket for success.
Sugar Pine Point, Dollar Point, CalNeva Point and the south shore shelves have all been giving up fish for St. Denis.
Mickey Daniels of Mickey’ s Big Mack Charters has been enjoying solid action at the north end of the lake. Mickey’ s clients have been hooking mackinaw up to 7 pounds. Some fish are being kept for the table while the others are tagged and released.
Mickey hooks his fish on a variety of offerings including Shasta Tackle Kok-A-Nuts teamed with Sling Blade Dodgers.

Fish Rollins Lake!
Tim Burges of Sacramento headed back up to Tahoe again last week in search of kokanee. His first trip of the season back in the middle of July yielded two salmon to 17.5 inches.
“ We hit the south end of the lake again and found a few fish. The bite is clearly improving. We boated 3 fish to 16 inches and lost 4 more, plus my son got an 8 pound mack on a kokanee spinner. If we would have boated the fish we lost, we would have had a pretty good score,” laughed Burges.

WEAVERVILLE – If you want to hook kokanee salmon at Trinity Lake at this time, you need to fish deep, at 50 to 60 feet.
“ Trollers are picking up kokanee to 15 inches while trolling with Wiggle Hoochies, Apexes and other lures, tipped with white shoepeg corn near the dam and in the Papoose Creek arm,” revealed Tim Brady at Trinity Outdoors.“ Anglers are also picking up and occasional landlocked king salmon in the 3 to 4 lb. class.”
He hasn’ t heard any reports on trout fishing success lately. For planted, holdover and wild rainbows, Brady advised ban anglers and boaters to fish in the mouths of the tributaries, including the East Fork, Stewarts Fork, Swift Creek and Upper Trinity. The top enticers include marshmallows,

Persistent fishermen are picking up a few spring-run Chinook salmon while fishing tuna balls and salmon roe in the Trinity River. Boaters and shore anglers are picking up fish to 17 pounds from Lewiston to Junction City.
Trinity Lake is holding 2,008,006 feet of water, 82 percent of capacity and 103 percent of average at press time.
WEST DELTA
Fish Bite, Pressure Light
BRANNAN ISLAND- There are plenty of fish to be caught in the West Delta, but with great action in S. F. Bay and the ocean relatively few anglers are fishing at this time.
According to the staff at Delta Dan’ s Outdoors, bait anglers in spots like Honker Bay and the mouth of Broad Slough are picking up the occasional keeper striper while soaking anchovies and sardines, but you’ ve got to deal with lots of shakers to score a keeper.
Sturgeon fishing has been productive in deep water areas near Pittsburg during the outgoing tide. Salmon roe, eel and pile worms are the winning baits.
For maximum fun and action, you might consider a Delta catfish adventure in one of the sloughs leading off the Sacramento River. The cats are holding in 10 to 20 feet of water and are gobbling a variety of baits including clams, night crawlers and anchovies. Targeting cats is a great way to spend a warm summer evening and it’ s a good trip for families with youngsters because there will be plenty of action. Bass anglers

WILDHORSE LAKE
Go Deeper For The Trout
ELKO – With surface water temperatures well above 70 degrees, trout fishing at Wild Horse is slowing down and anglers are having their best luck early in the morning before it gets too hot or by fishing in deeper water, according to Joe Doucette of the Nevada Department of Wildlife( NDOW).
“ Fishing has been productive for boaters who are fishing between 16 and 18 feet deep,” he tipped.“ Fishing from shore in the canyon that leads to the dam where the water gets deep quickly has been productive.”
“ Bait fishermen should use the usual worms or PowerBait for trout,” Doucette said.“ Sherbet PowerBait seems to be the ticket, though other colors will still work. Fly rodders should be trying chironomids, hares ears, PT’ s, damselfly nymphs, damsel adults, mayflies and wooly buggers.”
The campground and fish cleaning station are open and on a first come first served basis. Wildhorse has been stocked with approximately 80,000 trout this year.
There is road construction on SR-225 between milepost 37 and Lone Mountain Station. During the week drivers can expect up to a 30 minute delays, though on the weekends this shouldn’ t be a problem.
