BERKELEY- Salmon fishing outside the
Golden Gate is better than it’s been in a
number of years, with most boats rounding
up limits daily.
Out of the Berkeley Marina Captains
Joe and Joey Gallia of the New Easy Rider
have put together an incredible string of
salmon trips, boxing full limits for more than
10 straight days. The fish are averaging 7
to 10 pounds and the top fish have been
ranging from 18 to 25.
If you want salmon for the BBQ or
smoker, now is the time to jump aboard the
New Easy Rider.
Captain Hayden Mullens of Dragon
Sportfishing has also be targeting king
salmon from his beautiful cruiser and the
results have been impressive. Some days
he’s put his clients on full limits of salmon
before 9 in the morning.
Hayden only fishes 6 anglers, so if you
want to enjoy hot salmon fishing without a
big crowd, the Dragon is the boat for you!
On the potluck front, Captain James
Smith of California Dawn Sportfishing has
been mixing things up boating a mix of
rockfish, lingcod, halibut and stripers daily
while fishing inside the bay and up the
Marin Coast. For example, on one of his
most recent trips he put his 28 anglers on
full limits of rockfish and they added 18
lingcod, 9 halibut to 20 pounds and two
striped bass to 21 pounds.
Captains Chris and Jonathan Smith of
Happy Hooker Sportfishing have been
chasing Marin Coast rockfish and lingcod
in recent days with good results. On their
most recent adventure full limits of rockfish
and 20 lingcod went into the box.

BODEGA BAY - The salmon explosion
that was predicted by Captain Rick Powers
a few weeks ago occurred starting the
last week of July, and private and six-pack
boats have been getting in on the action
south of the harbor off of Ten-Mile Beach.
In addition to salmon, lingcod, rockfish,
thresher sharks, and big halibut are hitting
the decks out of Bodega Bay.
Powers said, “Our combination trips
have been great, and we have put in five
halibut over the past three days along with
a little less than a salmon per rod, limits
of rockfish, and quality lingcod. We took a
10-man charter on Sunday, August 6th, and
we came in with 7 salmon to 18 pounds, 12
ling to 14 pounds, and 10 limits of rockfish.”
“On Friday, we put in 17 big salmon to 33
pounds for 18 anglers trolling in tight along
the top end of Ten Mile Beach. The regular
charter from Encore Glass hooked over 25
salmon to land the 17 salmon with a solid
15-pound average along with 3 halibut and
a lingcod. This is the time for variety as
we have had the possibility for all species
available with halibut and even thresher
sharks in the mix,” noted Powers.
Powers has been alternating between
Elephant Rock to Point Reyes and up north
from the mouth of the Russian River to
Fort Ross, and there are salmon in both
locations.
Captain Eric Holthouse of North Bay
Charters and the six-pack ‘Take Five’ has

Mile Beach, stating, “There is bait scattered
from Bird Rock south to Abbott’s Lagoon,
and we put in 5 salmon and a big halibut
on Saturday. Second captain Josh Stevens
has been running the boat during the week,
and he returned with limits of salmon for our
clients for three consecutive days.”
The scores of boats that have been
predicted to flood the launch ramp at
Westside Regional Park have arrived, and
the ramp has been particularly busy on the
weekends.

SAN FRANCISCO – The Bass Tub has
been concentrating on salmon fishing over
the past couple of weeks with the arrival of
calm seas and epic fishing.
“The fishermen are catching limits and
near-limits of salmon,” said Erik Anfinson,
captain of the Bass Tub. “On our latest trip,
we trolled anchovies at 40 to 50 feet deep
off Half Moon Bay.”
“The boat ended up with 31 salmon to 20
pounds for 26 people on Sunday, August
6,” said Erik Anfinson, captain of the Bass
Tub. “On Friday, the boat returned with 13
limits of kings to 28 pounds.”
Rockfish and lingcod action is excellent
along the Marin County Coast and at the
Farallon Islands, but the Bass Tub has
been targeting salmon lately
