16 Sept. 29 - Oct. 13, 2017 FRESHWATER REPORTS: CONTINUED FROM PG 15 LAKE DON PEDRO cont. handful of trout and bass at the lake, while working the 60 foot depth range. Overall the best chance for trout fishing success is pulling shad imitating spoons. For bass, you’ll either want to work vertically with spoons or drop shot rigs. The lake is currently 87 percent full and dropping. EAGLE LAKE Fall Trout Excitement Will Kick Off Soon… SPALDING - The good news is that trout anglers fishing Eagle Lake are hooking handsome rainbows that range up to 4 pounds. The better news is that the bite is expected to really bust open once the fall chill hits the lake. As of press time, successful anglers were working hard to land a limit of rainbows, but the quality was making up for the effort. There are three distinct age classes of chubs holding in Eagle’s southern basin FRESHWATER and being able to identify them is part of the key to success. The trout are not holding near the super small chubs, nor are they hanging out in proximity to the adult chubs. It’s the middle age class of medium size chubs that the trout are preying on. The depth of the trout can range from 8 feet deep early to nearly 30 feet later in the day. Lures that are working run the length of the tackle isle with nothing really standing out as most consistent. Gold or silver Rapala sinkers work as do Needlefish, Cripplures, Thomas Buoyants, Speedy Shiners and Kastmasters. Orange has been a good color for spoons, but frog, chrome and chrome/blue are hooking fish too.
