about the same. Fish Flatfish for the

RIO VISTA - Striped bass fishing
continued to provide excellent action,
while others have seen an upswing
in salmon success.
Anglers trolling along the west
bank of the Sacramento River
continued to find a mixture of
schoolie and larger striped bass,
according to Craig Kamikawa
at Fisherman’s Warehouse in
Sacramento.
“The change of the tides have
been the best right now as the
weeds are still clearing out from the
bigger tides last week. Some guys

“There have been lots of smaller salmon
been really good,” Kamikawa said.
Sturgeon fishing was slow, but Kamikawa
related to a brewing bite in the Pittsburg
area. “It won’t be long until those fish start
creeping up into Rio Vista.”

ROLLINS/SCOTTS FLAT
LAKE
Early Morning Bassers Score
At Rollins!
COLFAX - Despite warm weather and
plenty of recreational boaters, anglers are
catching fish at Rollins and Scotts Flat
Reservoirs. Bass and catfish offer the best
action.
ìI caught a nice bass at Rollins Lake this
week. It was a spotted bass that weighed
3.65 pounds,î disclosed Jason Pleece of
Meadow Vista. ìI was working a Yo-Zuri
Banana Boat walking bait over deep water
in the Bear River Arm.î
ìOverall I’ve been getting quite a few
bass while fishing Rollins early in the
morning. Banana Boats and Rapalas have
been working the best for me. Most of the
bass I’ve been catching are smallmouths in
the 10 to 12 inch class, but there are some
bigger spots mixed in,î added Pleece.
At Scotts Flat, anglers continue to catch
bass on topwater baits early and late.
During the daylight hours plastic worms
and Senkos can pay off provided you fish
slowly.
The big news at Scotts has been the
catfish bite. Whiskerfish to 2 pounds are
being caught near the dam on ‘crawlers,
mackerel strips and pieces of hotdog.

SACRAMENTO AREA
Target Catfish Until The
Salmon Arrive
SACRAMENTO - Until the salmon
fishing picks up on the Sacramento River,
your top prospect is to target catfish in the
metropolitan area.
“If I was going to fish for channel cats, I
would head over to the Sutter Bypass,” said
Dennis Phanner at Sacramento Pro Tackle.
“Fish around the pumping stations with
chicken livers, mackerel and other baits. I’d
also bring a bucket of minnows and try for
crappie at the same spots.”

Another place to target catfish is Port
of Sacramento and Barge Canal near the
locks. Fish mackerel and chicken liver for
fish averaging 12 to 16 inches long.
“The salmon and striper fishing are slow,”
stated Jimmy Perez at Broadway Bait Rod
7 Gun. “My latest couple of trips for salmon
and stripers on the Sacramento near the
foot of Sutterville Road produced only
shaker stripers and no salmon. We haven’t
weighed in any fish at the shop over the
past couple of weeks:”
“I saw a couple of guys each carrying
a salmon in the 10 lb. class from the
Minnow Hole the other day,” reported Craig
Kamikawa at Fisherman’s Warehouse.
“They hooked the fish while throwing out
Mepps Flying C spinners.”

SAN PABLO RESERVOIR
Warm Water Species Dominate
The Fishing
EL SOBRANTE - Until the water cools
down, catfish, crappie and black bass
will provide the top fishing at San Pablo
Reservoir.
The lake level is 309.4 feet in elevation
and the surface water temperature is 80
degrees.
Anglers should employ chicken liver,
anchovies or nightcrawlers to hook the
channel cats. Erik Larsen of Napa topped
the catches with a 5.44 lb catfish taken
while using chicken liver in Scow Canyon,
reported Marcella Shoemaker at the Rocky
Mountain Recreation Company.
Target the crappie with redworms,
Crappie Nibbles or Atomic Teasers. For
largemouth and spotted bass, use a
Berkeley plastic worm in watermelon candy
and black motor oil with a Gamakastu off-
set shank hook.
