bass or king salmon over the past couple of weeks, with most bass fishermen concentrating on other lakes and salmon fishermen focusing on the Feather and Sacramento rivers, reported Bob Boucke at Johnson’ s Bait and Tackle in Yuba City.
The Department of Water Resources( DWR) reported that it remains focused on meeting its primary objective of repairing and reconstructing the main spillway by November 1 to handle flows of 100,000 cubic feet per second( cfs).
Work will continue well past November on both the main spillway and emergency spillway. The state’ s contract with Kiewit Infrastructure West is currently until January 2019.

DWR continues to make progress at the emergency spillway, and is on schedule to complete construction of the secant pile wall, or cut-off wall, in December 2017 or January 2018. Crews have completed 22 percent of the secant pile wall, according to DWR.

IONE – People were wondering when, after all of the big trout plants in Lake Pardee this summer, the rainbow trout bite was going to break open. Well, it has finally busted loose with the cooling weather.
“ Over the past week,” the anglers have been catching limits of rainbow while using PowerBait, worms and other baits,” reported Tammy of the Lake Pardee Recreation Area.“ The best areas are the Narrows and Stony Creek Landing.”
The last plant of 2,000 pounds of 1 to 1-1 / 2 pound trout went in on September 30.
“ The kokanee fishing has been slow; nobody has reported catching them lately,” she revealed. Anglers continue to nail channel catfish while tossing out chicken liver and anchovies in the coves. Fishing for

largemouth and smallmouth bass also remains very good for fishermen using drop shot rigs and top water lures off submerged points.
The lake is in great shape for this time of year, being 93 percent of capacity. Lake Pardee will close to fishing and other recreation on November 5 and will reopen under new management, the Rocky Mountain Recreation Company, next year.

Windy Conditions Make For Difficult Trout Opener
RENO- The conditions on the October 1rst Pyramid Lake opener could be summed up with a few words. Perhaps the legendary angler Jeff Morris said it best,“ We pounded it out in a persistent wind coming out of the north all day long.”
When asked how the fishing was, Jeff had this to say,“ We caught a lot of mostly Summit Lake and small Pilot Peak fish to 7 pounds; probably close to 100. The jig bite was on despite the wind.”
The surface water temperature was a brisk 66 degrees. Openers in the past have featured water temperatures up in the 74 degree range, so how this will factor into the rest of the fall remains to be seen. The shore bite may begin a little earlier than usual this year.
A few big fish were landed. Tom Steinbeg caught a cutthroat weighing a whopping 22 pounds, 8 ounces and measuring 37 inches long on opening day, according to Crosby’ s Lodge. That fish undoubtedly provided quite the thrill for the lucky angler who caught it.
Two other huge fish were weighed in at

the lodger. Loren Mateo landed a 17 lb. 6.4 oz. cutthroat measuring 32-1 / 2 inches long, while Kermit Chapman bagged a 18 lb. 8 oz cutthroat measuring 32 inches.
All in all, this was not an outstanding opening day. The weather made for very difficult conditions for most. Some even kept their boats on their trailers. Look for the bite to really pick up when the lake goes flat for a couple of days.

Salmon Scores Climb As More Fish Push Up River
REDDING- There are solid numbers of salmon in the Sacramento River and more fish are moving up the system every day. It looks like the month of October is going to offer incredible salmon fishing opportunities for Sac River anglers.
“ I’ ve been fishing the Feather because that is where the fishing is best right now, but there is good fishing on tap on the Sacramento River too and I think the fishing on the Sac is really going to take off in October,” reported Robert Weese of Northern California Guide Service.“ There are some jacks in the Sacramento, but there are some big fish in the 15 to 30 pound class too. From what I’ m hearing the guys at Woodson Bridge are scoring about one fish per rod. Further up the scores get better with the guys fishing the lava country between Redding and Red Bluff doing the best.”
Anglers fishing with Mike Bogue of Mike Bogue’ s Guide Service have been scoring limits and near limits while fishing the
