East Cape Fishing Gets Back
On Track After Storm
A
fter tropical storm Lidia
pasted through the southern
tip of the Baja peninsula, dumping
2 ½ feet of water on Cabo, things
are starting to get back to normal,”
reported Eddie Dalmau of Van
Wormer Resorts. “There is still a
lot of work to be done in Los Ca-
bos, as they were impacted much
for than the East Cape. The fishing
this past week has been back up to
the standards that we are used to in
the East Cape.”
“Lots of tuna around right now,
with mostly football size, but we
are getting the occasional one over
100 pounds. As you can see from
the pictures, lots of laundry flying
from all the boats, which is always
a great sight to see,” said Dalmau.
T
“We are seeing much more
dorado this year than we did this
same time last year, which is nice
to see again. We haven’t been
seeing the size that we did during
the Dorado Shoot Out, but we are
seeing an increase in the numbers.
The wahoo bite is still going pretty
strong, with one or two almost
every day. The marlin bite is also
strong right now with striped and
blue marlin in the area keeping
anglers busy,” Dalmau related.
“Inshore expect to see pargo and
roosters around the area, with this
last week being very strong for par-
go. All and all it’s a great bite right
now. Great time to be down for a
good variety of species,” conclud-
ed Dalmau.
Fishing Great Off La Paz
Despite Storms
he weather in La Paz has been
a real rollercoaster ride re-
cently with hurricanes and tropical
storms in and out of the forecast.
“For our La Paz Fleet it’s been
dorado, dorado and more dora-
do, but we’ve had some big blue
marlin too,” exclaimed Jonathan
Roldan of Tailhunter International.
The dorado schools were still out
in force most days and it was just
a matter of finding them. Once
you locked in, it could be madness
for 30 minutes or an hour until
you fished ’til you dropped and
caught limits and released a dozen
or more fish! And then, here some
“Mr. Blue” and the big marlin
runs through the school and picks
up a bait on 30 pound test and it
wouldn’t last long, but the adrena-
line buzz was fun.”
“The “Tuna Stomp” of 2017
continued in full swing off Muertos
Bay/ Suenos Bay and Las Are-
nas lighthouse. Fish from 10-30
pounds were solidly biting most
days and some of our boats were
nailing limits by early morning
and coming back or going to chase
other species,” added Roldan.
