using drop shot rigs and top water lures off submerged points. Anglers continue to nail channel catfish while tossing out chicken liver and anchovies in the coves.
The marina hours are now Wednesday through Sunday from 7 am to 3 pm.
Lake Pardee will close to fishing and other recreation on November 5 and will reopen under new management, the Rocky Mountain Recreation Company, next year.
The lake is in great shape for this time of year, being 93 percent of capacity.
PYRAMID LAKE
Strong Trolling Bite Rewards Cutthroat Anglers
SUTCLIFFE- The trolling bite is really clicking at Pyramid Lake. Pretty much everybody is catching Lahontan cutthroats when the wind isn’ t blowing, and it has been blowing a lot lately.
Anglers are seeing success all over the water column, but the bigger fish are coming off of deep structure. How big are the fish? Well, fish to the high teens are being weighed every few days.
The Pyramid King, Jeff Morris,( in this writer’ s opinion) related in a recent conversation“ It’ s Pyramid time.”
He then sent a picture of a 9 pound Pilot Peak race of Lahontan Cutthroat. He hooked the fish while trolling a U-20 Flatfish along the bottom on a three way rig. Jeff wanted to let me know he thought my recent decision to go salmon fishing on the Sacramento River was foolish, when a red hot Cutthroat bite could be found much closer to home.
Jeff continued his torment throughout the day with texts like,“ Just landed three Pilots in a row- all 7 pounders.” When asked what the final tally was, he had this to say,“ Still at it, probably landed over 40 fish today.”
Lou Varela, of Reno, had a similar report saying,“ My wife and I hit the lake for a couple of hours today. We landed 20 fish to about 6.5 pound trolling Flatfish.”
Shore anglers are finding a tougher bite, as most of the fish are in deeper water at this time. However, the water temperature is exceptionally cold for mid-October at only 59 degrees. This likely will parlay into an early shore bite beginning very soon. When the water temperature dips into the low 50’ s, expect a very strong shore bite to develop. The last few years, the best action of the season has been during the month of November. Big bruiser Cutthroat will move into easy range of fly casters, jig flingers and those chucking spoons.

FREMONT –“ Bass and catfish seem to be what is biting these days at Horeshoe Lake,” said Joe Sullivan of the East Bay Regional Park District.“ And the bass are finally getting big enough to keep.”
Gary Stadler of Newark landed a 7.5 lb catfish on a Rapala while trolling the front end of Horseshoe. Kim Ravago caught a 4 lb largemouth in Rainbow Lake using worms.
Brook Van Muijen of Danville and his friend landed 4 largemouth bass while throwing out Zara Spooks from a boat.
“ Peter Simpson of Fremont caught catfish three days in a row on chicken liver,” said Sullivan.“ His last catch was 6.5 lbs., caught off the left-hand side of the beach.”
Trout plants have begun at Horseshoe Lake. The park district planted 1500 pounds of trout on October 2 and 750 pounds the week of October 16.
Currently both the boat ramp and fishing pier are open.

REDDING / RED BLUFF
Sac River Anglers Battle Kings!
RED BLUFF- Salmon fishing on the Sacramento River ranges from good to very good. That’ s the word from both pro guides and local anglers.
Mike Bogue of Mike Bogue’ s Guide Service has been putting his clients on limits of kings that average 10 to 20 pounds with the occasional monster that weighs
As advertised, the 6th annual River2Sea Open held on Clear Lake last weekend, surely did not disappoint as 114 teams descended on Clear Lake- at Konocti Vista Casino, to partake in the annual“ Big Party” and sample a small taste of Clear Lake’ s late summer to early fall transitional bite.
Capturing the 2017 R2Sea Open Crown was the team of Brett Leber and Chuck Kavros of Vacaville and Grass Valley respectively, who bagged a 2-day, fivefish limit that weighed 36.66 pounds. They were very discreet regarding the exact R2Sea bait they used to win, as both plan to fish the upcoming FLW event taking place on Clear Lake at the end of this month. For their victory, they received $ 5,000 in

from 25 to 30 plus. The water in the river is cold and the majority of the fish being landed are silver bright and cut up nice and orange.
Mike loves pulling plugs, so he starts the day back trolling with Flatfish. When the plug bite ramps down, he finishes out the day drifting and bouncing Pautzke cured roe.
“ I’ ve been spending a lot of time fishing the Feather, but I’ ll be switching to the Sacramento soon. The fishing has been good on the Sac and I’ m looking forward to seeing some new scenery,” quipped Robert Weese of Northern California Guide Service.
According to avid salmon angler Mark Campos of Chico, the fishing on the Sacramento improves steadily as you move up river from Woodson Bridge.
“ My buddies fishing at Woodson are getting anywhere from one fish per rod to limits. As you move up the line past Red Bluff toward Redding the scores just keep getting better. The guys fishing the Balls Ferry area are smacking limits just about every day,” reported Campos.
RIO VISTA
Take Your Pick – Stripers Or Salmon
RIO VISTA- Striped bass and salmon continue to provide Delta anglers with plenty of action while others prepare to battle with sturgeon.
There was no shortage of salmon being landed this week, according to Craig Kamikawa, assistant manager at Fisherman’ s Warehouse in Sacramento, as trollers continued to pick up limits early and often.
“ It’ s been the same story for guys trolling between the( Rio Vista) bridge and the Ferry. You can literally start your troll just above the bridge, pass the mouth of the
