“ CATCH OF THE MONTH”
Rig them on a spreader with about 50- 54” inches of 25 pound test leader to the spinner, and a 18 to 24 inch dropper to your sinker,” he tipped.
While the majority seek salmon, very few anglers sought striped bass.
“ You can fish in solitude right now for stripers. You might see a couple guys trolling on the west bank, and a few bait fisherman spread out around the Power lines and Sherman Island. Right now you can use sardines or shad and do really good picking up five and six pounders,” he tipped.
Though some bigger fish are also in the mix, as Jack Naves staff writer with the Fish Sniffer found success over the weekend picking up a 25 pound striped bass near Collinsville using chicken livers.
“ Sturgeon fishing interest is picking up right now. A lot of the guides are gearing up and a few of them are starting to scout out the normal haunts. Fish are coming out of Pittsburg and Collinville in deep water but the wind has been unpredictable,” Kamikawa related.

ROLLINS / SCOTTS FLAT LAKE
Raymond Mitchell Goes Big At Scotts Flat
COLFAX- With warm fall weather and a lack of recent plants, trout fishing is very slow at both Scotts Flat and Rollins Lakes. In contrast bass fishing is good and improving and there are some big fish in the mix.
“ I knew that trout fishing was slow at Scotts Flat, so I left my trout gear at home and ran with my bass stuff,” reported

Raymond Mitchell Yuba City.“ I recently blew out the lower end of the motor on my boat, so I fished from the bank. I started out dead sticking wacky rigged 4 inch brown Senkos and never changed baits. I caught two largemouths and a smallmouth in the first hour or so. Those fish were in the 12 to 13 inch range.”
“ When I got a fourth strike I figured it was another average size fish, but as soon as I set the hook I knew it was much bigger. The fish stayed deep, but I was able to wear it down pretty quickly. When I got it to the bank I was surprised by it’ s size. It was a really fat largemouth that weight 6 pounds 11 ounces. After weighing the bass I turned it loose. I fished for another 2 hours and caught 4 more bass in the 1 pound class,” said Mitchell.
At Rollins Lake Jason Pleece has been rounding up bass from his kayak.
“ I’ ve been getting from 6 to 10 spots and smallmouths that run 1 to 1.5 pounds every time I fish Rollins. I’ d like to be targeting trout, but the lake hasn’ t been stocked in a while and the browns aren’ t hitting yet. I’ ve been getting some bass on poppers, but the best offering has been a 3 inch grub rigged on an 1 / 8 or ¼ ounce darter head,” said Pleece.
SACRAMENTO AREA
Salmon Fishing Is Hot & Cold
SACRAMENTO- Fishing is building momentum on the Sacramento River from Discovery Park to Garcia Bend, but the action varies greatly from day to day.
‘ The fishing has been hot and cold,” reported Jerry Lampkin of TNG Motor Sports Guide Service.“ The three anglers fishing with me on Friday landed three salmon weighing 15, 10 and 5 pounds, but the two anglers fishing with me the next day didn’ t hook any fish.”

“ I heard the better action was down by Courtland that day,” said Lampkin.“ We’ ve been trolling cut plugs from Miller Park to Garcia Bend.”
Fishing was slow on the Sacramento River in the capital city area, but the action picked up when James Netzel

of Tight Lines Guide Service reporting limiting out on his next trip.
“ Three anglers fishing with me landed six salmon weighing 7, 13, 14, 15, 17 and 20 pounds,” said Netzel.“ We’ ve been trolling with Brad’ s Cut Plugs in a variety of colors from Miller park to Garcia Bend.’
He noted that the water level has stabilized and the water temperatures range from 61 to 62 degrees.
Monte Smith of Gold Country Sportfishing reported a“ great day” of fishing on his last trip on the Sacramento.
“ We got one on the first pass and another one on the second pass,” said Smith.“ On the third pass we got a double hook-up.’
They lost one of the fish to a sea lion, but put the other one in the boat. They landed a total of four salmon, limits for two anglers, while trolling with Brad’ s Cut Plugs behind flashers.
Since most anglers have been concentrating on salmon, few have been trying for striped bass or catfish in local waters.

SAN PABLO RESERVOIR
5 Foot Sturgeon Caught & Released
EL SOBRANTE- The biggest news of the past couple of weeks at San Pablo Reservoir was the catch and release of a huge white sturgeon.
“ Someone that did not want to be identified caught a 5 ft long sturgeon on Thursday, October 5,” said Marcella Shoemaker at the Rocky Mountain Recreation Company.“ I am happy to report that it was released back into the water.”
On the same day, Mount Lassen planted 1,000 lbs of trout at the Marina( Main Recreation Area), the first trout plant of the fall.
Three days later, Michael Bagleh of Daly City caught 2 trout weighing a total of 3.5 lbs while using a lure in Scow Canyon. Other anglers are catching rainbows while tossing out nightcrawlers and PowerBait.
Nathan and Jeron Bradley of South San Francisco caught a carp weighing 3.12 lbs while fishing at the Main Rec. Area.
Catfish, crappie and bass and trout continue to reward anglers.“ Chicken liver, anchovies or nightcrawlers are your best bets for catfish,” said Shoemaker.“ Crappie will bite on a redworm, crappie nibble or an atomic teaser. For bass, use a Berkley plastic worm in watermelon candy and
