FRESHWATER REPORTS:
CONTINUED FROM PG 24
LAKE TAHOE/DONNER
cont.
Macks can be found at depth of 50-75 feet
and most concentrations of these fish can
be found around China Cove. Macks are
ranging from 5-8 pounds and have been
hitting small spoons such as Hum Dingers
and Needlefish.
For rainbows, toss all the standard baits
such as PowerBait, nightcrawlers, and
salmon eggs and combinations of these
baits. Spoons and spinners of different
varieties are working too. By casting closer
and then working your way out a little
further one can detect what depth the trout
are cruising and having patience is key to
success now.

Yo-Zuri Crystal Minnows tipped with Trick
Worms have been working very well.”
The staff at Hap’s Bait reports that bait
anglers are also scoring limits of bass.
Shad are the best bait, but mud suckers,
jumbo live minnows, anchovies and
sardines are working too.
Trophy hunters that have the patience to
fish live bluegill and split tails are hooking
bass that range from 15 to 25 pounds in the
upper reaches of Suisun Bay.
There are also solid numbers of sturgeon
holding in Suisun Bay, but only a few
anglers are targeting them at this time.
Those that do are hooking up on salmon
roe and lamprey eel strips.
Salmon are pushing up the Sacramento
and trollers have been hooking fish both
above and below Rio Vista. Some boats
are landing as many as three kings per
outing with fish running up to 30 pounds.
Silvertron spinners pulled close to the
bottom are yielding the best results.
Breaking News: Andy Doudna took the
top spot in the Rio Vista Striper Derby for
second year in a row. Full details in the next
edition of the Fish Sniffer Magazine.
BRANNAN ISLAND - Striper fishing is
raging in the West Delta
and anglers are rounding
up easy limits. Most of
the fish are schoolie size
bass that range up to
about 8 pounds, but there
are some much larger
fish in the system up to
about 25 pounds.
“We’ve been smashing
the stripers. The tides
are starting to back off
right now and I expect
the trolling bite to get
even better over the next
several days,” reported
Capt. David Hammond
