“ standard-size catchable rainbow trout,” according to the Sacramento Municipal Utility District( SMUD).
Anglers can toss out PowerBait and other dough baits, nightcrawlers, Rooster Tail and Panther Martin spinners, Kastmasters, jigs and other offerings for the feisty trout.
Meanwhile, one savvy bass fisherman has reported catching and releasing up to 30 fish in a day while fishing from his kayak, reported Dena Oneto at the Rocky Mountain Recreation Company.
Also on tap at the beautiful lake are crappie, bluegill and redear sunfish. Toss out jigs, redworms and other baits for the sunfish.

Salmon Bite Hits Wall …
REDDING-“ If we hit the water tomorrow I’ m not saying we’ d get skunked. What I’ m saying is that if we got a bite we’ d better hook that fish and land it, because the prospects of getting another bite wouldn’ t be very good,” quipped Mike Bogue of Mike Bogue’ s Guide Service.
“ We went from really good fishing to really poor fishing in the span of a week. I cancelled my trips for the rest of the week, because there simply isn’ t a big enough volume of fish around. I’ m hoping for late fall run fish to start showing at any time. Late fall run fish typically start arriving in early November, so we’ ll know the story soon,” said Bogue.
“ The bite has really hit the wall on the Sacramento River,” related Robert Weese of Northern California Guide Service.“ It’ s not uncommon to see a slow down at this time of the year. There should be a push of late fish on the way. That is often when we see the really big chromers show up. November can be a really exciting month on the river if that late run is decent. All we can do is keep our fingers crossed and keep our ears open for word of fresh fish arriving in the system.”

landed by anglers, while sturgeon continues to improve.
Bait fisherman using fresh shad and sardines landed good numbers of schoolie sized fish according to Craig Kamikawa at Fisherman’ s Warehouse in Sacramento.
“ Right now the fish are just about everywhere. I’ d fish either Decker or Sherman Island in 25 to 28 feet of water. Both tides are good but the incoming tide seems to push fish in from the bay,” he said.
“ You can also fish the San Joaquin River from Prisoner’ s Point down to the mouth of Three Mile( Slough). Fish 10 to 15 feet,” he added.
Anglers in search of sturgeon were scattered from Collinsville to Cache Slough, according to Kamikawa.“ Fishing the edge of the shipping channel is your best bet right now. The fish are scattered and the ones moving through are early season migrators. Use eel or roe for bait.”

ROLLINS / SCOTTS FLAT LAKE
Water Level Draw Down Kills Bite At Rollins
COLFAX-“ Well without trout plants, fishing at Rollins is pretty challenging, although I was getting some decent bass, but now the lake level has been dropped significantly and it has killed my bass bite,” exclaimed a clearly upset Jason Pleece of Meadow Vista.
“ The reaction bite had been pretty decent on crankbaits and poppers, but on my last trip up there I couldn’ t buy a bite from the bass. I tried both reaction baits and soft plastics,” Pleece continued.
“ Whether the lake is being planted or not, there are some good browns in Rollins,

need to see a strong temperature drop to get the browns going,” Pleece predicted.
“ My uncle Vick and a buddy of his went over to Scotts Flat Reservoir last week and they didn’ t do much of anything. They fished for a total of 8 hours. They got blanked trolling and then picked up one smallmouth while drifting with night crawlers,” Pleece concluded.
SACRAMENTO AREA
Salmon Fishing Off & On
SACRAMENTO- Boaters and bank anglers are still hooking hard-fighting chinooks on the Sacramento Area, but the action has slowed down from the better bite of the previous two weeks.
“ The bite has been tough,” said James Netzel of Tight Lines Guide Service.“ We’ re getting one to two fish per day while trolling from Miller Park to Garcia Bend with Brad’ s Cut Plugs behind Pro-Troll flashers.”
The one angler fishing with him on Monday landed one
18 lb. salmon, while the previous day’ s trip yielded two kings weighing 18 and 4 pounds.
“ The salmon fishing has been up and down in the Sacramento Area,” said Monte Smith of Gold Country
Sportfiishing.“ We’ ve caught fish every day. We landed limits two days in a row and on the next day caught one fish. The fish are averaging 12 to 15 pounds, with our largest weighing between 25 and 26 pounds.”
He has been trolling with Brad’ s Killer Fish behind flashers on the stretch from Miller Park to Garcia.
“ We caught two fish today,” said Jerry Lampkin of TNG Motor Sports Guide Service.“ We landed chinooks to 10 pounds while trolling with Brad’ s Cut Plugs behind flashers at Miller Park. On my previous trip, we bagged a 15-lb. salmon. All of the fish are really bright.”
Some fishermen, frustrated with the hit and miss salmon fishing, are heading over to the Port of Sacramento and Deepwater Channel to pursue striped bass.
“ The key is to find shad schools,” said Dennis Pfanner at Sacramento Pro Tackle.“ When you do, you can hook stripers in the 4 to 6 lb. class while jigging with spoons or trolling with Yo-Zuris, Bomber and other lures.”

SAN PABLO RESERVOIR
14 Lb. Channel Cat Leads Fall Catches
EL SOBRANTE- Trout fishing has definitely picked up with recent plants at San Pablo Reservoir, but it is the catfish that are providing the most exciting fishing.
Bill Robinson of Berkeley experienced an incredible day of fishing when he landed 10 catfish weighing a total of 60 lbs. while fishing anchovies. His largest fish weighed 14 pounds, according to Marcella Shoemaker at the Rocky Mountain Recreation Company.
Joseph Lobo of Pinole caught two giant catfish, one weighing 9.01 lbs. and the other weighing 12.54 lbs. while using anchovies at the Pines. Jaime Robacaba of Richmond caught a 6 lb catfish; no location
