You can hook trout as deep as 30 feet, but the best action is taking place from the surface down to 20.

If you want a shot at a brown, natural colored salmon eggs or cured natural colored trout roe is the way to go.

The average fish is a 3 pound rainbow. The largest rainbows top out at 6 and there have been some browns in the mix too.

AMADOR LAKE

Trout Derby Begins

IONE – The annual Lake Amador Tagged Trout Derby started on November 24 and will run through March 4. The one-time entry fee is $ 7.00.

Over 300 tagged trout will be planted. Over $ 5,000 in cash and prizes will be available. More information:( 209) 274- 4739.

The Lake Amador Resort has been stocking 200-to 250 lbs. of trout daily Monday through Friday, boosting the catch rates.

Now that the fish from the lake’ s onsite hatchery have been planted, the management has begun stocking the reservoir with Mt. Lassen trout. On November 22, Mt. Lassen put 4,000 pounds of rainbows in the hatchery., reported Lee

Most anglers that head out to Lake Amador during the fall have their sights set on trout, but not Cliff. He opted to soak cut anchovies and pulled this huge 17 pound catfish out of the Jackson Creek Arm. He also rounded up a nice stringer of bluegill.

“ The fish are shallow- most are being caught in the top 5 ft of water and relatively close to shore,” said Lockhart.“ PowerBait and nightcrawlers are still working the best, but crappie jigs have been doing well also.”

The points have been producing well for shore anglers, while boaters are reporting the top action in the Jackson Creek. The trolling action hasn’ t picked up yet; most boaters are bait fishing.

The lake level is 24 feet from full. The lake came up 2 feet since the latest storms., reported Lockhart.

Salmon, Steelhead Make Good Showing

SACRAMENTO- After spawning the returning adult fallrun Chinook salmon that hatched in the Coleman National Fish Hatchery( CNFH) in Battle Creek in 2014, Nimbus Fish Hatchery staff are now spawning American River fall-run salmon.

The facility has trapped 5,941 chinooks to date, a combination of both the Coleman and
