David Pokrant limited out on trout using PowerBait down by the dam . Joe Ramos caught a 4-3 / 4 lb . trout off shore by the marina using PowerBait . Jacob of Oroville reeled a 1-1 / 4 lb . trout off shoreline by the dam using worms .
Don Purdy of Yuba city limited out on trout using green PowerBait by the group campsites . Cody Reed of Paradise caught 4 trout by the boat launch using needlefish .
Successful trollers include Craig Barrick of Oroville , who nailed a 7.9 lb . trout trolling Rapala lures down by the dam . Bruce Miller caught a 5-1 / 2 lb . trout using Kastmaster lure trolling in the middle of lake .
April Lovings of Rocklin caught 2 trout using Wedding Rings in the middle of lake . Amy of Yuba City bagged a 2-lb . trout using rainbow flashers down by the dam .
One angler , Jayden Avila , came all the way from Florida to catch a catfish using worms .

More Sturgeon Should Move Up River
RIO LINDA – The rise in water level from the recent storms should prod more sturgeon to move up the Sacramento from Verona to Knights Landing , but few anglers are targeting sturgeon now .
You best bet to is to fish with ghost shrimp , pileworms and lamprey eel in the First Beach , Second Beach and El Dorado Bend areas near Knights Landing .
Other anglers are going downriver for their sturgeon . Tim Boggs of Elkhorn Outdoors has been finding solid sturgeon and striped bass action on most of his trips to Suisun Bay , though not on his latest trip there .
“ We caught just one sturgeon , a shaker measuring 34 inches , on ghost shrimp at the Mothball Fleet ,” he explained . “ That ’ s the only fish we saw caught that day . It was hard to fish because the wind was blowing 15 to 25 mph .”
The channel catfish action is slow on the Sacramento River , but should improve as we get more storms to warm up the water . For maximum catfish success , toss out chicken liver and G & S Dip Bait in the Sutter Bypass .

Boat Launch Won ’ t Reopen Until Spring
ANTIOCH – The boat launch facility at Contra Loma Reservoir closed for rehabilitation on September 25 , 2017 , and shall reopen in spring 2018 .

“ Trout fishing has been good almost anywhere around the lake ,” said Sullivan . “ Try the north-west side of the lake or Channel Point dock . We recommend using mice tails , PowerBait or nightcrawlers .” “ Catfish has slowed down . Try at the Channel Point or Loma Island with anchovies , nightcrawlers or chicken livers ,” Sullivan advised .
For largemouth bass , anglers should fish artificial baits / lures including Senkos or nightcrawlers anywhere around the lake or from boats .
DAVIS LAKE
Trolling , Bank Angling Yields Winter Rainbows
PORTOLA – With the mild weather this year , Lake Davis is currently in transition between the open water and ice fishing seasons – and few anglers have been targeting trout .
Most of the lake was ice-free at press time – and boaters and bank anglers were catching some trout . That could all change , though , after a cold front moves into the region .
“ One guy reported catching a few rainbows today , but said the fishing was definitely not red hot ,”
said Jeanne Graham of the J & J Grizzly Country Store & Camping Resort . “ He didn ’ t see what size they were or what he caught the fish on .”
Most of the fish showing at the reservoir now are fat , chunky rainbows in the 18 to 22 inch range .
“ There is a little ice near the dam and in Honker Cove ,” said Graham . “ Boat launching is currently available at Camp Five and Lightning Tree . Shore fishing is best at Mallard ; anglers are reporting hooking one or two trout while using worms and Power Bait .”
Lake Davis is holding 69,888 acre feet of water , 84 percent of capacity and 120 percent of average .

3623 and Wildlife ( CDFW ). The latest park district plant of 1000 pounds of rainbows went into the lake the week of January 15 , 2018 .
“ The weather this week has been perfect for trout fisherman ,” said Cody McGarry of the Rocky Mountain Recreation Company . “ Cold and calm mornings make for great fishing weather . The hot bite this week has been trout with many anglers limiting out either from shore or boat . Most anglers like to use PowerBait and Power Eggs . I would also recommend using either Mice Tails , Kastmasters or small spinners .”
Catfish are slow this week , with few anglers even targeting them . “ If you target catfish , fish points and rock walls . The best baits to use would be either chicken liver , anchovies and night crawlers ,” he tipped .
“ There are still no reports of anyone having any luck fishing for stripers . If you do target stripers , anchovies and mackerel work the best for still fishing . I would also recommend jigging with a Kastmaster or hair raiser ,” McGarry added .
Most of the fish weighed in at the marina lately have been trout . Phabian Warren of Livermore and Daryl Hill of San Jose each caught a trout weighing 5.5 lbs . Jacob Jordan and Brianna Sifton of Boulder Creek landed five trout up to 2.5 lbs . Phabian Warren of Livermore reeled in one trout going 8 lbs .
Kelly Barrington and friend caught 10 trout , the largest weighing 4 lbs ., while Joe Mello of Fremont landed a 7 lb . rainbow .
