of the coves. You want to be trolling at a depth of 5-9 feet.
“ Trolling in Peninsula Cove was reported as good with a couple of anglers catching their limits,” noted deMunnik.“ They were fishing in 10-20 feet of water with their lures 7-10 feet deep. Anglers have caught limits from both boats and from shore.”
Samuel Martinez caught an 8.0 lb. trout while fishing garlic PowerBait from a rental boat in Howden Cove. Bob Chappell of Dublin bagged an 8.66 lb. rainbow while soaking garlic Power Bait from shore in South Cove.
On January 29, Mr. Leslie Seid of Livermore landed a 9.85 lb. trout while using a lure in Cowboy Cove.
Striper fishing is holding steady, with both shakers and legal sized fish being caught around the reservoir. Cut anchovies or shad, fished either from shore or a boat, are the top enticers.
Big catfish honors go to John Zaczek of Clovis, who landed a 13.2 lb. channel cat near the marina dock with an anchovy. Beginning February 1, the Fishing Access Pass price increased to $ 6.00.
The reservoir is currently storing 149,000 acre-feet, 93 percent of its 160,000-acrefoot capacity, same as last week. The water temperature remains between 56 and 58 degrees. The water clarity remains between good and fair.
If you are looking to rent a boat, it is a good idea to call ahead to check current wind conditions at( 925) 371-2628 for weather conditions updated hourly.

OROVILLE LAKE
Spotted Bass Provide Cold Water Sport
OROVILLE – Do you want solitude while fishing for black bass and king salmon? You’ ll find plenty of it at Lake Oroville now.
Bass enthusiasts are picking up spotted bass, mostly in the slot limit of 12 to 15 inches. Until the fish move up to shallower water, expect to hook them at 25 to 40 feet deep.
Fishing with drop shot rigs with Robo Worms in pondsmelt and shad patterns is your top prospect. The water temperature is holding around 49 degrees, so you must work your baits very slowly to get bit.
Virtually nobody is trying for king salmon now. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife( CDFW) stocked 25,000 salmon fingerlings in Oroville last May. The agency also planted 110,000 chinooks in
Salvador smashed a huge limit of rainbows when he visited Lake Chabot in late January.

PYRAMID LAKE
Shore Cutthroat Fishing Rated Slow
RENO- The news continues to be the same that the shore bite at Pyramid Lake is floundering. There are a few fish being caught by persistent anglers, but the bite is by no means hot.
Fly fishermen casting wooly buggers on heavily weighted shooting heads are catching a few fish, as are anglers hanging nymphs under an indicator along deeper drop-offs. Most of the fish being caught are smaller Summit Lake fish in the 17-22” range, but there’ s always a shot at a 20 pound Pilot Peak beast.
Boaters are consistently enjoying the best action. For the most part, the weather has been excellent for boaters to get out and troll. The top rods are finding success fishing high in the water column near where the beach drops off into deeper water.
Most boats are seeing scores of about 10-20 fish for a day’ s worth of work. Most of the fish being caught are smaller Summits, but an average boat will likely see at least one mature Pilot in the 6-9 pound range on a good day.
The best offering has been a 4” Lyman top lined about 200’ behind the boat. This plug will dive to about 12’ feet if everything goes perfectly. Trolling in lazy S-turns is a good idea; as is speeding up and slowing down.
The shore bite should really pick up by about the middle of February. Top areas to inspect will be the North and South Nets Beaches, the marina, Seperator and Pelican. The bulk of the fish will be spawning Summits, but a few big bruiser Pilots will undoubtedly be in the catches as well.

QUARRY LAKES
Big Rainbows Lead February Angling Parade
FREMONT – Heavy rainbow trout plants continue to keep anglers hooked up at Horseshoe Lake, located in the Quarry Lakes Recreation Area.
On the week of February 5, Mt. Lassen Trout Farm stocked 750 pounds of rainbows and the CDFW stocked 1000 pounds.
A few catfish are showing.“ Tony Webb of Fremont had no sooner put his line in the water when he caught a 4 + pound catfish using shrimp,” reported Joe Sullivan of the East Bay Regional Park District.“ He also caught four trout while fishing on the back side of Horseshoe Lake.”
EBRPD regular Joaquin Gutierrez also caught a 7.76-pound and 6.4-pound rainbow trout on a fire-tiger spoon on Fishermen’ s Row.
“ After the last fish plant, Joaquin limited out quickly. He caught two trout using rainbow PowerBait, and three others on green and chrome spoons,” said Sullivan.
Glenn Poole of San Leandro caught two four-pound rainbow trout and one twopound rainbow trout! He was fishing with Mice Tails at the end of Fishermen’ s Row.
However, the biggest fish honors go to Ken Manstrom, who landed a 9 lb. trout on a gold spoon.
“ For the months of January and February, the kiosk will have extremely limited staffing,” noted Sullivan.“ The kiosk
