Trout To 3.5 Pounds Show For Mid-Winter Anglers

CHESTER - I hit the water at Lake Almanor the other day with friends Kevin and Joe aboard Kevin ’ s boat to test the waters and stretch some lines ,” related Bryan Roccucci of Big Daddy ’ s Guide Service .

“ The lake level is doing pretty good considering the lack of winter we have had . we were

greeted with a beautiful sunrise and flat calm conditions ,” said Roccucci .

“ Water temperatures are a little ahead of normal due to the unseasonably nice weather , ranging from 40 to 42 depending on when and where we were . We covered a lot of water mainly in the east basin and found the fish on a pretty solid bite landing a mix of browns and rainbows to about 3.5 pounds fishing custom plugs . Look for the bite to only improve as we head further into the month ,” Roccucci concluded .

PUBLIC SEMINARS AND EVENTS

Bank anglers fishing Geritol Cove and Rocky Point have been getting decent numbers of rainbows to 3 pounds while fishing inflated worms teamed with marshmallows . For the best results , anglers are adding Pro-Cure Anise Krill Super Gel to their baits .

There have been no reports of smallmouth bass showing up yet , but with the warm winter conditions the smallie bite should kick into gear at some point during the second half of March .

Lightning Trout Planted In Reservoir

IONE – The first 300 pounds of Lightning trout from Mount Lassen Trout Farm were planted into the lake , offering anglers to catch this beautifully-colored strain of sterile trout . More plants of these fish are planned in the future .

The Lake Amador Resort has planted a total of 19,050 pounds of trout into the lake since plants started in October 2017 .

“ On a scale of 1 to 10 , the trout fishing is about a 6 to 7 ,” reported Laurie Lockhart at the Lake Amador Resort . “ The anglers doing best are fishing with small baits of PowerBait , Rapalas , black flies and white crappie jigs . Don ’ t expect to catch anything if you use a gold ball size piece of PowerBait .”

Anglers are catching the trout near the dam and spillway , off main lake points and in the Mountain Springs area .

Drift Boaters Hook Winter Steelhead

SACRAMENTO - Drift boaters report catching some steelhead on the American River below Nimbus Dam .

“ Two anglers fishing with me today caught and released one hatchery fish measuring 19 inches long , as well hooking and losing two other fish ,” said Jerry Lampkin of TNG Motor Sports Guide Service . “ We hooked the fish while back trolling Hot Shots from Sailor Bar to Sunrise .”

“ On my previous trip , we experienced similar fishing ,” said Lampkin . “ We landed one nice native fish just out of net range , and had another grab that didn ’ t stick , all on Hot Shots .”
