patterns is your top prospect.

PYRAMID LAKE
Shore Cutthroat Bite Gains Momentum
RENO- The shore bite at Pyramid Lake is growing stronger with each passing week. Where the shallows were devoid of fish a month ago, now shore anglers have a shot at bagging a real whopper of a trout.
The numbers of Cutthroat invading the shallows are not great at this time, but some real bruisers have been showing up in recent catches. The biggest fish have been over twenty pounds and running up to almost unbelievable weights of twenty four pounds. The best action has been for those throwing marabou jigs on ¼ oz. jig heads.
Fly fishermen are having difficulty casting far enough to reach the deeper troughs that the fish are holding in. That should change as more and more fish enter the shallows in late February and into March.
As more and more fish move into shallower water, the boat bite will continue to decline. This is the time of year that boaters typically struggle to find numbers of fish and size of fish.
The best strategy for boaters is to anchor off a beach that is holding fish and toss a marabou jig back towards shore. Trolling will still catch fish, but these often are smaller fish that have no

interest in spawning. It’ s not uncommon for trollers during the spring months to find concentrations of 16-19” bright silver fish that have no interest in breeding.
