Unstable Weather Makes Bass Fishing Difficult
COYOTE- Bass fishing action and interest has tapered off in response to low water levels and cold temperatures, as others look for crappie.
Eric Tang at Coyote Bait and Tackle this week related to extremely slow fishing for bass as rapidly changing conditions wreak havoc on their feeding habits.
“ Sunshine, then rain, then back to sunshine, then really cold. There is not
Thousands Of Catchable Trout Planted In Each Lake! stability right now with the weather is making it hard to bass fish,” Tang related.
“ If I had to suggest a lake to pick, I’ d pick Coyote even though you can’ t launch a boat right now. Try a ned rig with a three inch senko, or throw a darter head, drop shot or a small underspin jig with a finesse swimbait like the Keitech,” he tipped.
“ Uvas and Chesbro seem to be doing decent based on the conditions. I’ d throw the same stuff there.”
“ Crappie fishing is starting to take off at Coyote, Uvas and Chesbro and it should only get better if we can get some warmer weather,” Tang said.

SHADOW CLIFFS LAKE
10 Lb. Rainbow Leads Catches
FREMONT – On every trip you go fishing at Shadow Cliffs Lake, you have the opportunity to catch trophy rainbow trout.
Just ask Chris and Tiffany, who teamed up to catch a ten-pound trout while using green PowerBait near the boat launch this February.
Other anglers are catching big numbers of fish. Rodney and his three sons caught a total of 12 trout while soaking PowerBait, reported Joe Sullivan of the East Bay Regional Park District. Mike and John also both landed their limits fishing from a boat.
Heavy trout plants continue. The park district stocked 1000 pounds of rainbows the week of February 26 and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife planted 1000 pounds of rainbows the week of March 6.
After a warm spell, anglers have encountered colder weather in the recreation area lately. The water temperature is 54 degrees, depending on depth. The water clarity seems to vary between 10-15 feet.

Trollers Battle Rainbows, Browns and Kokanee
REDDING- Jeff Goodwin of Jeff Goodwin’ s Guide Service reports consistent fishing for both rainbows in the 14 to 16 inch class and browns returning to the lake from up river spawning runs.
According to Goodwin, the trout are holding right on the surface early and then drop down to 10 to 20 feet once the sun hits the water, provided the surface is calm. If it’ s breezy the fish will stay closer to the surface.
Goodwin is doing well while trolling flies teamed with a Wiggle Disc. The best colors are rusty brown and all white. Various types of hoochies are working too.
The pattern remains stable for bass anglers. The fish are holding around points in both the lower ends of the arms and in the main body. Dragging crawfish imitations like spider grubs and tubes will draw a lot of strikes as will a finesse worm rigged on a drop shot or Carolina style rig.
Most of the bass being caught are spots that weigh up to 2 pounds. This is the time of the year when some big smallmouth and largemouths show up for anglers working swimbaits.
To hook up combine patience with long casts that parallel banks that drop into deep water. The bass hold offshore in such locations and try to push stray trout and baitfish up against the bank. You’ re looking to put your bait into that near shore strike zone.
Kirk Portocarrero of SacRiverGuide. Com hit Whiskeytown Reservoir last week with the Paulina Peak Tackle Team and everyone limited out quickly for a total of 20 kokanee to 16 inches
