Chris’ Fishing Trips also reported solid bottomfish action. The 25 anglers on the Check Mate returned with 15 lingcod and limits of rockfish on April 15, while the 21 anglers on the Caroline caught 8 lingcod and limits of rockfish Carol Jones of Kahuna Sportfishing in Moss Landing reported that their repower of the boat is getting close to done – and they will be available for rockfish and lingcod trips to Point Sur and Point Lopez soon. “The salmon fishing was slower today near Mulligan’s, but there were some better scores in the afternoon in the shallow water,” said Todd Fraser at Bayside Marine in Santa Cruz. “There were some fish caught in 140 feet of water near the Sand Plant. The salmon were being hooked 80-150 feet down by boaters trolling glow Krippled Anchovies, gold Tom Macks, and silver Apexes. There were a few ones caught at the Soquel Hole and up to Davenport in 200-240 feet of water.” “The weather was nice and the swell dropped, so the rock fishing got better. There were a few halibut caught near the Mile Buoy,” he added. - Dan Bacher SAN FRANCISCO - Anglers in search of striped bass and halibut continue to concentrate their efforts on beaches along the city shoreline, while perch fishing remains on tap. Swimbaits and hair raisers were the top recommended baits for both striped bass and halibut this week according to Stefanie Scott at Gus’ Discount Bait and Tackle in San Francisco. “It[s hot in the bay, but they’re starting to come in close to shore,” Scott laughed. “Last week it was pretty slow, but once everyone caught wind of all the good fishing on the boats, everyone was trying from shore! Try Crissy Field and Baker Beach,” she tipped. Perch fishing remained on tap for anglers working Ocean Beach. “Pile or blood worms will work, or you can use the small motor oil grubs,” she tipped. Interest in crab wained over the week, according to Scott. “Some days its windy with lots of swell, or lots of swell but no wind. Either way, no one wants to use a crab trap off the Pacifica Pier in either condition,” she related. – Roland Aspiras SALMON • - ROCKFISH ROCKFISH • - ALBACORE ALBACORE SALMON 2912 831-633-2564 831-633-2564 Get to the fishing grounds Get fast on to our charter grounds boat in Moss fast Landing-Monterey the 50’ fishing on our 50’ Bay charter boat in Moss Landing - Monterey Bay WWW.KAHUNASPORTFISHING.COM www.kahunasportfishing.com Predator Sport Fishing 4.23.10 Small Groups • Great Rates Excellent Sturgeon, Bass and Shark Fishing! Shrimp, pogies and crabs, the mainstay inshore baits, were purchased daily with leftovers discarded and the practice repeated the next day. To the amazement, and delight, of inshore anglers Gulp! not only was out fishing the tried and true but the unused baits were good the next day, and the day after that and the month after that. Just what is it about Gulp! that separates it so much from live and plastic baits? Well, first of all Gulp! is water based. Water based also means the scent and flavors contained within are wa- ter soluble. Scent dispersion is 400 times that of plastic baits. Gulp! baits literally breathe water. As water enters and leaves the bait it takes with it the strong scent, leaving a virtual Gulp! scent trail in the water. There is no other bait like Gulp! Since its introduction, anglers made up their mind not to trust anything else. A look at IFA (Inshore Fishing Association) tournament results proves that profes- sional anglers rely heavily on Gulp! and the top finishers at just about every event are using the bait. The next generation of Gulp! formula is more potent than ever. Through thousands of field tests over the past 20 years, Berkley scientists have learned a thing or two about what triggers fish into striking. Recent developments have lead the Berkley team to create a new and en- hanced Gulp! formula that is now 35-percent more effective than the original. Gulp! is available in newly, designed resealable packages to protect the integrity of the baits’ shape and Gulp! Alive! in resealable tubs. It offers the most popular saltwater shapes and colors. Shrimp, crabs, eels, mullet, grubs, pogies, sandworms, bloodworms, croakers…. the list of shapes goes on and on. - Capt. Greg Watts.
