I just had that experience when I picked up a Scotty Bait Board.
I’ ve been cutting bait, arranging lures for use and stowing knives and pliers for years, so I pretty much had all those challenges covered. Yet when I first saw Scotty’ s Bait Board, basically a bait board designed to fit in a Scotty mount, I thought,“ why not”?
Now that I’ ve had the board mounted in my Duckworth for a month or so, I honestly don’ t know how I got along without it. I now view the board as a true luxury item.
Of course, you can cut bait on the bait board. That’ s great, but I also find it to be
a really useful workspace in general. The working area of the board has lips all the way around it. This means that things like split shot, beads and swivels won’ t roll off of it. Around the edges there are holes of various sizes. You can hang lures from the small ones. There is a place for a knife and other holes for things like pliers and scissors.
I’ ve used the board extensively while trolling for trout. That’ s where I lay my spoons, plugs and dodgers, both the ones I’ m about to try and the ones I’ ve fired because they aren’ t hooking fish.
I’ ve tried hanging lures through the small holes around the edges of the board and they stay where I put them even when running at full speed. My plies and scissors stay in place as well.
