Potluck Anglers Enjoy Great Fishing
EAST BAY - San Francisco Bay is full of bait . Gamefish like halibut and striped bass are on a red hot bite in both the South Bay and the Central Bay . Limits and near limits of stripers have been the rule in recent days and halibut scores are running about a fish per rod .
For the next week or so , with a series of big tides scheduled , anglers can expect halibut to become a bit harder to get , but the striper bite should be outstanding .
On May 27 the California Dawn with Captain James Smith at the wheel boxed

Captain Joe and Joey Gallia of New Easy Rider Sportfishing , would like to be fishing for salmon beyond the Golden Gate , but with no salmon within range they are spending their time in the bay chasing halibut and bass .
On their most recent trip the New Easy Rider ’ s 14 anglers rounded up 14 halibut and 5 stripers to 18 pounds .
Captain Quang Vo of the Goldeneye 2000 has been putting his clients on some big halibut . On Vo ’ s last trip his anglers landed limits of stripers and more than a fish per rod on keeper halibut . 4 of the keeper halibut were over 20 pounds !

BODEGA BAY
Big Rockfish , Lingcod Hitting Off Point Reyes
BODEGA BAY - The winds were up over the Memorial Day Weekend , and the six-packs stayed tied up to the docks . The only boat with a chance at braving the conditions is the 65-foot New Sea
Angler .
Halibut action inside of Tomales Bay is a good option when the wind has
4.23.10 been blowing , and second Captain Josh Stevens of North Bay Charters continues to take advantage of his experience inside of Tomales Bay .
The local salmon season starts on June 17th , and the campgrounds and launch ramps should be crowded over the opening weekend .
Captain Rick Powers of Bodega Bay Sport Fishing and the New Sea Angler has been traveling south to Point Reyes for limits of bottom-dwellers consisting of coppers , Bolinas , vermilions , and chinas along with a fish per rod to limits on the lingcod . They went south this week for 12 limits of rockfish , 8 lings to 10 pounds , and a bonus 72 Dungeness crab to 2.5 pounds . Powers has his crab pots in the water , and he will be pulling the pots on select trips .
Captain Eric Holthouse of North Bay Charters has been alternating his captains between rockfishing when the weather is cooperative and trolling for halibut in Tomales Bay when the weather is not so cooperative , and Second Captain Mike Wade went north to Fort Ross on Friday for 5 limits of big bottomdwelling rockfish along with ½ limits of ling cod .
Saturday was a blow-out , but captain Stevens was trolling in Tomales Bay on Sunday with success on a few halibut . Holthouse said , “ People want to go fishing on the days that they have dedicated to go and being able to go into Tomales for halibut is a great option .”
Kayakers are also getting in on the act , and Tyler Aughney of Sebastapol took out his kayak from the beaches north of Bodega Bay for limit of rockfish consisting of blues and quillbacks .
