where the fish are hanging out, adjust your weight / indicator to make this happen on your drift,” tipped Reid.
“ Virginia Lakes have been fishing excellent this week, lots of nice fish from float tubers as well as shore anglers. The fly anglers seem to have been doing the best with twin lakes specials, soft hackles, zug bugs, sheep creek specials and matukas. Bait anglers are catching fish with pinched crawlers, night crawlers and Mice Tails. Lure anglers are using Thomas Buouyants, Kastmasters and Jakes Spin-A- Lures,” said Reid.
“ Bridgeport Reservoir is still fishing pretty well from boats but the shore fishing has slowed down quite a bit. This is pretty typical for Bridgeport, as the water warms up the fish tend to congregate near the inlets as opposed to near the shore fishing areas. The trolling as well as bait fishing has been good, bait anglers are anchoring up off of Rainbow Point as well as in various spots out in the middle. Trolling has been good in Buckeye Bay in around 15 or so feet of water,” advised Reid.
FEATHER RIVER
Shad on Tap As Anglers Gear Up for Salmon Opener
YUBA CITY – Shad are still bending anglers’ rods on the Feather River as fishermen gear up for the salmon season opener, although the shad bite has slowed down from the hot pace of a month ago.
“ The fishing is slow at this time, although a school of shad that moved into river resulted in good fishing for anglers at Beer Can Beach,” said Tim Boggs of Elkhorn Outdoors.“ Anglers are doing best while fishing with 1 inch pink grubs on their jigheads.”
Combined releases into the Feather River below the Thermalito Afterbay Outlet are only 1050 cfs at this time.
The salmon season on the Feather River, as well as on the Sacramento and American rivers, will open to the fishing on July 16. The daily bag limit will only be one fish and the possession limit will be two fish

FOLSOM LAKE
Boaters Land Rainbows & Kings
SACRAMENTO – After a temporary slow down, the rainbow trout and king salmon action has bounced back at Folsom Lake.
“ Two customers of mine fished several times at Folsom Lake,” said Craig Newton at Willfish Tackle.“ They bagged limits of rainbows, with some kings mixed in. The trolled with Speedy Shiners with black and red dodgers.” They targeted

two areas – the North Fork from the Peninsula to the floating bathrooms and the mouth of the South Fork.
“ The rainbows ranged from 14 to 20 inches long, while the kings were in the 14 to 16 inch class,” he said.“ The best depth was around 45 feet deep.”
The black bass are now in their summer pattern at Folsom. Toss out top water lures and glide baits early and late in the day and fish with drop shot rigs and Senkos off the points during the day. A mixture of spotted, smallmouth and largemouth bass are available for anglers,
Folsom Lake is holding 893,574 acre feet of water, 91 percent of capacity and 110 percent of capacity. The lake is 458.39 feet in elevation.

in Cowboy Cove,” said Rony Garber at the Los Vaqueros Marina.” That’ s a total of 24 trout for the anglers.”
Anglers are still hooking lots of hefty channel catfish in the wake of a a 5,000 pound Mount Lassen channel catfish plant in late May.
Mackerel, chicken liver and anchovies are the best choices of bait for the catfish. Fishermen are experiencing the top action near the marina and in the South Cove.
Striped bass action remains productive. Most of the fish are either shakers or small keepers in the 18 to 22 inch range. The South Cove continues to be the most active area for anglers fishing anchovies and chicken liver.
The water level is currently at 155,000 acre feet. Filling has stopped for the summer. The water temperature is between 64 and 66 degrees depending on the time of day, wind and temperature.

NEW MELONES LAKE
Boaters Land Rainbows, Browns & Kokanee
ANGELS CAMP – Anglers on New Melones continue to see a good trout bite, mostly while trolling and using common trolling gear and baits. A lot of guys like rolling shad, reported Gene Hildebrand at Glory Hole Sports.
“ Trolling Needlefish and using what is referred to as a kokanee setup using a hoochie trailing a blade are also bringing in the large rainbows and browns, as Marvin Wells of Sonora showed us with a nice 6 lb. brown. Marvin was trolling a pink Needlefish up river at a depth of 38 feet,” said Hildebrand.
7-year-old Justin Grey was fishing out by the spillway and brought in an awesome 21” rainbow trout.
“ We’ ve had a slow start to the kokanee season this year, but this week alone we have heard of multiple limits of kokes being landed on Melones. Kevin Ogg of Paulina Peak Tackle was using Purple Haze blade and hoochie combo by Paulina Peak for his limit,” said Hildebrand.
Jeff Jackson and Jimmie Dirkson of Angels Camp came up with the right date, time and color combination of Sling Blade, and hoochie, both in pink to land eight kokanee also.
