largemouth bass, according to pro staff
angler Eric Tang at Coyote Bait and Tackle.
“Calero is the only lake that you can fish
from a boat right now. For bass, try throwing
a jig, senko or drop shot rig on the main
body points. You can also try yo-yoing a
Lucky Craft LV 500. Crappie is doing good
at Calero too. Its best from a boat because
you can drift around with a mini crawler or a
chartreuse crappie jig,” he added.
“Anderson is a little slow since you can’t
fish from a boat, but you can catch them
using a drop shot rig. Crappie is going pretty
good especially out by the dam,” he said.
“Uvas and Chesbro are both good for
crappie and catfish. Uvas is the better
catfish lake, though. Try using (chicken)
livers, mackerel or anchovies, or anything
else that’s real oily,” Tang tipped.
Fishing at Coyote for all species was
slow, according to Tang.

poppers right now because it’s a bait I can
keep in the strike zone, unlike a walking
bait. Most of the bass I’m getting at Rollins
are 1 to 2-pound spots, but every now and
then I’ll get a fish near 3,” disclosed Pleece.
Trollers are still catching a few trout at
Rollins. The best trout action is coming in
the main body of the lake from 20 to 35
feet deep. The top offering is a set of small
flashers trailing half a threaded ‘crawler.
The trout being landed are 10 to 14-inch
planter rainbows.
At Scotts Flat, anglers are catching a
mix of smallmouth and largemouth bass on
topwater lures and soft plastics.
Rainbow trout are cruising around the
mouth of the creek and a few are being
caught by trollers pulling Needlefish and
small Rapala minnows.
Catfish are getting active and starting to
show in the catches. Liver and worms are
the top baits, but mackerel or even hotdog
chunks will work. The best time for catfish is
in the evening hours and after dark.
SACRAMENTO AREA
Catfish Go on Summer Prowl
SACRAMENTO – Striped bass fishing
has slowed down in the Sacramento River
in the metropolitan area, since most of
the fish have already made their annual
migration to San Francisco Bay and the
ocean. Targeting catfish in the river and
local sloughs offer anglers the best chance
of hooking fish now
“Anglers are hooking a lot of small
undersized stripers while fishing bait, as
most of the larger fish have l
