Hot Halibut , Striper & Salmon Bites Electrify Anglers

BERKELEY - “ The potluck bite in San Francisco Bay has been absolutely epic over the past couple weeks ,” reported Captain James Smith of California Dawn

Sportfishing . “ We ’ ve had a lot of trips recently where we put over 100 keeper fish into the box . Today is a great example of the type of action we ’ ve been experiencing . We ended up with 40 halibut to 22 pounds and added 62 stripers to 15 pounds .”

“ Today we had wide open bass fishing inside the bay and the halibut action was great too ,” exclaimed Captain Jonathan Smith of Happy Hooker Sportfishing . “ The bass were biting at all depths and we even got some fish on swimbaits . We ended up with limits of stripers and 42 halibut to 20 pounds for our 24 anglers .”

Captain Quang Vo of Goldeneye 2000 Sportfishing has been focused on live bait potluck fishing inside the bay with great success . His anglers have been limiting out on striped bass and have been averaging better than a fish per rod on halibut .

On the salmon fishing front , not much has changed . Anglers are bagging easy limits daily and many of the fish fall within the 15 to 30 pound range .

The New Easy Rider with Captains Joe and Joey Gallia at the wheel has been nailing big numbers of salmon . On their last trip , the 26 anglers aboard the New Easy Rider got full limits of kings to 18 pounds . The previous day they had 26 limits to 22 pounds .

Captain Hayden Mullins of Dragon Sportfishing has been putting his anglers on early salmon limits for the past two weeks . Many of the salmon hitting the deck of the Dragon are big 20 plus pounders .

Salmon Bite Brings Out The Crowds

BODEGA BAY - Salmon action has turned on along the Sonoma County coast , and private boaters are getting in on the action occurring within ½ hour of the harbor .

Captain Rick Powers of Bodega Bay Sport Fishing and the New Sea Angler said , “ It has been a fantastic week of salmon fishing , as we have been out in the deeper water at 35 to 40 fathoms , but I made a U-turn and found them just outside of the Head with limit-style fishing on every trip . The only limiting factor for returning with limits has been the occasions when the weather is on the rough side .

“ The grade of fish is mixed , but on every trip , we are returning with salmon in the high teens into the mid-20 ’ s . We put in 36 limits of salmon to 27 pounds early in the week . The great feature is that the fish are just ½ hour from the docks outside

of Bodega Head . The private boats are out in force when the weather is cooperating as there is no other place in the coast where you can get to the fish so quickly . We haven ’ t had many calls for rockfishing with the great salmon action , but we did drop the lines down off of Point Reyes for quick limits of rockfish before limiting on salmon ,” he stated .

The salmon bite has been so outstanding that Captain Eric Holthouse of North Bay Charters has already been filled for the month of July with half of the dates in August filled as well .

He said , “ We have been fielding at least five calls per day for anglers interested in
