Trollers Score Trout , Salmon In Northern Sierra

CHESTER - Options are diverse for trout and salmon trollers working northern Sierra waters . At Almanor rainbow trout provide much of the action with some browns and kings mixed in . At Bucks Lake kokanee , macks , rainbows , browns and brook trout are all responding to lures .

Captain Bryan Roccucci of Big Daddy ’ s Guide Service is still fishing Lake Almanor for rainbows that range up to 3 pounds , but the bite is slowing down .

The mackinaw bite had been good at Bucks for fish up to 8 pounds , but the big macks have been playing hard to get recently . Most of the macks that were caught over the past week were in the 1 to 3 pound class .

Trollers Battle Hell Hole Kokanee

AUBURN – If you want to hook some tasty , hardfighting kokanee salmon , Hell Hole Reservoir is a solid prospect .

Anglers should troll hoochies , spoons and spinners , tipped with white corn , behind dodgers , for fish up to 12 inches . Fishermen trolling with downriggers can expect to hook their limits .

Shad Run Winding Down

SACRAMENTO – Shore anglers and boaters are still catching and releasing shad on the upper stretch of the lower American River , but the action is starting to dwindle down .

“ My brother , Ron , is still hooking shad while fly fishing in the Sunrise area of the river ,” reported Alan Fong of Fisherman ’ s Warehouse . “ He and his daughter caught and released 30 shad on their latest wading venture on the American . A lot of the fish they ’ re seeing now have already spawned .”

Other anglers are hooking shad while tossing out champagne plastic grubs on 1 / 16 oz . jig heads in the Sunrise and Sailor Bar areas of the river .
