FRESHWATER

VOL. 37 • ISS. 17
FRESHWATER REPORTS:
CONTINUED FROM PG 15
RIO VISTA cont. Sacramento.
“ Right now, they’ re getting a couple spooning the deep schools, but in the mornings you’ ll find them hitting shad on the surface. It’ s still breezy in the morning but if you can find some calm water with current the shad will be back into the shoreline along with the stripers,” Fong tipped.
“ Bass fishing is doing really good for the guys throwing frogs and punching mats. Look for good current near the vegetation and you’ ll find the bass.”
Sturgeon interest remained slow, while few searched out salmon.
“ It’ s always slow around the time of the opener. You can get them on the incoming tide best. Try the all chartreuse Silvertron or a half silver, half chartreuse Silvertron on a spreader. Two ounces of weight on the income tide, and three ounces on the outgoing tide,” he tipped.

ROLLINS / SCOTTS FLAT
Fishing Takes Back Burner, As Warm Weather Brings Out Recreational Boaters & Bikinis
COLFAX“ To be honest, I haven’ t been doing a whole lot of fishing recently simply because there has been so much boat traffic with all the hot weather we’ ve had. Right now the bikini watching at Rollins is a lot better than the fishing,” Jason Pleece of Meadow Vista laughed.“ I did get out in my kayak on Rollins on Wednesday for the last three hours before dark. I got 11 bass on that trip, but all of them were under 2 pounds. I got most of them twitching a small smelt pattern floating Rapala, but a couple came on a yellow and silver Yo-Zuri Banana Boat,” disclosed Pleece.
“ My brother tried soaking bait with a buddy of his at Freeloaders Cove. They were hoping to hook a
catfish, but the only thing that bit was a 7 pound Sacramento pike-minnow,” Pleece reported.
Reports from bass or trout anglers at
Scotts Flat have been few and far between, but there have been some catfish showing up for bank anglers soaking worms and other baits during the evening hours.
