28 Aug 17 - 31, 2018 VOL.37 • ISS. 18 SALTWATER SALTWATER REPORTS BERKELEY Variety Is The Word For East Bay Anglers East Bay- Fishing for anglers departing from East Bay ports remains outstanding for halibut, stripers, lingcod, rockfish and salmon. Captain James Smith of California Dawn Sportfishing has been mixing things up. On his most recent trip he headed outside the Golden Gate for lingcod with a crew of lady anglers and they rounded up 28 limits of lings. Other days Smith stays inside the bay to focus on halibut and stripers. These trips are producing an average of 2 keeper fish per rod. At least once per week Smith has been targeting salmon and limits have been the result on most recent trips. Captains Jonathan and Chris Smith of Happy Hooker Sportfishing have been mixing it up with some trips outside the bay and some trips inside. Their most recent adventure focused on halibut and they were able to put 25 halibut to 23 pounds into the box for their 24 anglers. On the salmon fishing front, the New Easy Rider continues to put their anglers on epic Golden Gate salmon action. Most days they are getting limits and on the rare day they just miss limits. On their last trip, they nailed 36 salmon to 25 pounds and added a pair of halibut. Captain Quang Vo of Goldeneye 2000 Sportfishing has been splitting his time between salmon mooching in the ocean and halibut fishing in the bay. On his last salmon trip, the boat scored 32 limits of kings to 30 pounds while mooching. Quang’s most recent halibut trip produced 39 halibut to 27 pounds. Captain Hayden Mullins of Dragon Sportfishing is still putting anglers on limits of salmon when the weather beyond the Golden Gate cooperates. When it’s rough outside, Hayden has been running some very exciting bay shark fishing trips for seven gills and soupfins.
