LAKE PARDEE
16 Lb. Channel Cat Leads Late Summer Catches
IONE – Channel catfish and black bass are providing anglers at Lake Pardee with their best chance of hooking fish now.
There’ s some huge catfish out there, as evidenced by the 16 lb. channel cat that Demi Gomez landed while fishing rainbow Power Bait with his two friends. The trio also bagged three other catfish in the 5 to 7 pound class fishing from a boat at the log jam up the Mokelumne River, reported Sylva Rogers of the Rocky Mountain Recreation Company.
“ Catfish action is really good,” said Rogers.“ Most anglers are catching them on worms and PowerBait at the low water ramp and along the shoreline during the day and night.”
Black bass fishing is also excellent, with Paul of Oroville catching and releasing 12 largemouth bass while drop shotting plastic worms on the lake’ s south end.
Trout fishing is“ pretty good” for shore anglers tossing out nightcrawlers and PowerBait. For example, Paul Sepeas bagged two rainbows and a 3 lb. at 50 feet deep off the Wood Pile.
Kokanee action has tapered off, though anglers are still picking up some fish.“ Over the past week, just 40 kokanee from boaters were reported,” said Rogers.“ One angler, David, reported picking up one kokanee and one trout while trolling deep at the mouth of the river.”
The concessionaire continues to plant 1,000 pounds of rainbows weekly, with the latest plant of fish ranging from 2 to 5 pounds going in on August 10.
The lake is at 98 percent of capacity.
RANCHO SECO LAKE
Late Summer Anglers Battle Black Bass, Sunfish
HERALD- The Sacramento Municipal Utility District’ s Rancho Seco Reservoir, a scenic 160-acre year-round recreational facility nestled in the rolling countryside of Sacramento County between Galt and Ione, continues to be a superb spot to target largemouth bass, redear sunfish and crappie this summer.
There are big bass available on the lake, as evidenced by the recent catch and release of a 10 lb. largemouth. The angler hooked the fish while using a plastic frog, according to Dee Sawyer of the Rocky Mountain Recreation Company.
Besides frogs and other top water lures, anglers can hook largemouth bass at Rancho Seco while using Senkos, other plastic worms, jigs, swimbaits and crankbaits. Rancho Seco is a lake with the potential

The lake has the three characteristics needed to produce record class fish: Florida-strain genes; conditions that allow the fish to reach large size; and a good food source, particularly planted rainbows.
The lake also features good populations of redear sunfish, black crappie and bluegill, along with channel catfish. Fishing for all four species is best for boaters, float tubers and shore anglers in the spring and summer.
On August 16, 2015, Brad McGarity of Galt set a new California state record for“ hybrid sunfish” when he landed a fish weighing 1 pounds, 4 ounces and measuring 11 inches long and 11.25 inches in girth at Rancho Seco.
Trout fishing will resume in the fall when the water temperature cools down and rainbow trout plants begin.
Fishing at the family oriented facility, operated by the Rocky Mountain Recreation Company in conjunction with the Sacramento Municipal Utility District,( SMUD), is available year-round.

REDDING / RED BLUFF
North Valley Anglers Hook Sac River Kings!
REDDING-“ The salmon bite has actually slowed down just a touch this week, but it will bounce right back. There are fish being caught down river from us up here in the Redding area and those fish will push up here in a few days,” reported Mike Bogue of Mike Bogue’ s
Guide Service.
“ Overall river conditions are top notch right now. The only negative is that the flows are being ramped up and down slightly fairly often. The variations don’ t shut the bite down, but you’ ve got to adapt to the changes when they occur,” tipped Bogue.
“ Almost all the fish we’ ve been catching have been hooked on Flatfish. As long as I can get them back trolling, I’ ll keep on fishing with large Flatfish,” said Bogue.
“ Fishing has been very good for us,” reported Robert Weese of Northern California Guide Service.“ We are getting limits on a daily basis. I’ ve been mixing things up a little. Some of our fish are coming on T-55 Flatfish and the rest are falling for salmon roe.”
“ Most guys want salmon these days, but the trout bite is outstanding on the Sacramento in the Anderson area. The rainbows will hit a range of different offerings. Right now, you can’ t really go wrong with roe and / or crickets,” tipped Weese.
If you want to fish the Sacramento River, both Robert Weese and Mike Bogue are top sticks when it comes to putting anglers on big bad kings and wild‘ bows. To book a trip with Weese of Northern California Guide Service, give him a ring at( 530) 755-7196. conditions and murky water. Schoolie striped bass are common catches for anglers soaking bait, trolling and plugging this week, according to the pro staff at Fisherman’ s Warehouse in Sacramento.
“ Most guys aren’ t bait fishing right now because of the wind. Either they’ re trolling from Decker Island down to Broad Slough, or they’ re going up to Cache to toss swimbaits and topwater,” tipped Alan Fong, manager.
“ If you want to use bait, try live minnows on the San Joaquin where you can drift. Guys trolling are either going deep or up shallow. The income is better for the shallow trolling. For the guys fishing plugs, try S-wavers or a spook,” he added.
Sturgeon fishing remained slow, but Captain Mike Funtanilla of Bend Ur Rod Sport Fishing found some fish in Pittsburg during a lul in the wind last week. His clients landed several fish including three keeper diamondbacks.

ROLLINS / SCOTTS FLAT
Fishing Slow With August Doldrums
COLFAX-“ Fishing at Rollins has been very slow. Scotts Flat has been a little bit better but not much,” reported Jason Pleece of Meadow Vista.“ This isn’ t a surprise. August is typically a pretty slow month at these middle elevation foothill reservoirs. The surface temperature is high and there is lots of boat traffic from the pleasure boating crowd.”
“ I visited Rollins last week and had the worst bass trip I’ ve ever had up there. I fished for 3 hours from my kayak and got zero bites. I tried everything from Senko’ s to crappie jigs,” said Pleece.
Fish Sniffer editor Cal Kellogg fished both Rollins and Scotts Flat this week and struggled.
“ I think it is going to be a few weeks until fishing improves at Rollins and Scotts,” said Kellogg.“ I tried a variety of different trout and bass lures, trolling, casting and drifting with worms and got no bites. August is typically a pretty slow time at Rollins. This start perking up in September when the nights get longer and the surface temperature starts coming down.”
If you are looking for tackle or fishing information for a trip to Rollins, Scotts, Halsey Forebay or surrounding waters, Will Fish Tackle in Auburn has what you need. Will Fish Tackle is located at 11944 Masters Court in Auburn, Ca-( 530) 887- 0839.
