BODEGA BAY
Sonoma Coast Salmon Action Still Solid
BODEGA BAY - The Sonoma coastline continues to be a top location for salmon fishing , and rockfishing remains outstanding . There are changes coming to the depth restriction for bottomfish beginning on August 25th with the section of the coastline from Point Arena to Pigeon Point limited to 30 fathoms ( 240 feet ) due to the excessive take of the prohibited yelloweye rockfish . Mike Aughney of USA Fishing . com said , “ The salmon bite is solid for most of the party boats , but it is mixed for private boaters . Captain Rick Powers of the New Sea Angler went north with 25 anglers towards the end of the week for near-limits of big fish with 47 salmon to 21 pounds . They hooked roughly 80 fish , and had several multiple hookups of up to 6 fish at a time . Jeff on the Samantha

Irene put his clients onto 9 salmon working off of Tomales Point before running further south . There is plenty of forage ,, and the conditions look great for more good action to come .”
Captain Eric Holthouse of North Bay Charters said , “ The action was slow on Friday with back up captain Merlin Kolb putting a couple of big fish after scoring 9 quality salmon for 6 anglers the previous day . The bite rebounded on Saturday and Sunday with second captain Josh Stevens .
Most party boats will be running rockfish / Dungeness crab combinations starting Saturday , November 3rd .
Out of Lawson ’ s Landing in Tomales Bay , Willie Vogler said , “ The area between the Trees and the Buoy ‘ 02 ’ in 60 to 100 feet of water has been the top area for salmon with most private boats returning with at least one quality salmon . The halibut fishing has been slow for the most part , and if someone is catching them , they aren ’ t talking with me . Scott Alexander landed a 26-pound salmon off of Bird Rock on Saturday , August 18 .”
