WEST DELTA
Anglers Limit On Stripers!
BRANNAN ISLAND - The West Delta
striper bite is hot for trollers, pluggers and
bait anglers. Limits have been the rule in
recent days and the fish are averaging
5 to 12 pounds with some 30 pound
monsters showing up here and there.
Fish Sniffer readers Robert Allison and
David Leathers hit the San Joaquin River
last week and enjoyed very good trolling
and drifting.
“We started off catching a half dozen
bluegill and then hit the shoals drifting
them on three way rigs,” said Allison. “We
burned through the bluegill in less than an
hour and landed 5 stripers to 13 pounds.
Once we were out of bait we started slow
trolling with white Fish Trap style baits
rigged on half ounce heads. By noon we’d
landed and released 17 bass. Most of
them were 4 to 6 pounds. The 13 was our
biggest fish, but we had several pushing
10 pounds.”
