by Shin. He caught one two-pounder, two
three-pounders, and a four-pound trout.,”
said Sullivan.
However, the biggest fish taken over the
past couple of weeks wasn’t a trout, but a
catfish. Lionel S. from Union City reeled
in his 10-pound catfish from the back of
Horseshoe while using Mouse Tails.
Raymond E. also found catfish success,
landing three channel cats, all over six
pounds each, by fishing nightcrawlers
from the backside of Horseshoe.

REDDING/RED BLUFF
Chromers Bite Between
Storms
REDDIING- “The fishing has been
great on the Sacramento River between
Redding and Red Bluff when we can
fish,” exclaimed Captain Mike Bogue of
Mike Bogue’s Guide Service. “There are
some very nice chromers in the river. The
problem has been all the rain. Don’t get
me wrong we need all the rain we can get,
but at times it has muddied the river and
made it unfishable.”
“When we’ve got the water clarity, back
trolling plugs has been working very well.
I’m using T-60 Flatfish with a sardine
wrapper and plenty of Atlas Mike’s Lunker
Lotion,” said Bogue.
“In terms of the fish, the quality is really
good. We are seeing lots of late fall run
chromers and most of them are over 15
pounds. We’ve seen some fish into the
30’s. This is the time of the year when
we often see really big fish that go well
beyond 30 pounds. The season ends
in about a week so if you want to get
a big king hit the water soon,” Bogue
concluded.
Robert Weese of Northern California
Guide Service has also been experiencing
very good results when the conditions are
decent. Robert fishes a mix of plugs and
roe, but most days the plugs are getting it
done.
If you’d like to get after some big late
season Sacramento River kings before
the season ends, both Robert Weese and
Mike Bogue are top sticks. To book a trip

Service, give him a ring at (530) 755-

RIO VISTA
Stripers, Crappie Hitting in
North Delta
SACRAMENTO - Both striped bass and
crappie are showing in the Mokelumne
River and Snodgrass Slough area out of
Wimpy’s Marina as the fish congregate of
schools of shad. However, the Sherman
Island area has been the hot spot if you
just want to focus on striped bass.
On his latest fishing adventure, Alan
Fong of Fisherman’s Warehouse reported
great crappie and striper action out of
Wimpy’s.
“We caught over a hundred crappie,
ranging from hand-size to 1-1/2 pounds,
while using 2-1/2 inch Finesse Shad in
smoke with black flake, smoke/chartreuse
and salt and pepper colors,” said Fong.
“We graphed massive schools of shad at
20 to 25 feet deep that the crappie were
feeding upon.”
“The striper fishing is also really
good,” said Fong, who found a hot bite
for stripers to 8 pounds for an hour in
Snodgrass Slough while throwing out
Alabama rigs.
“There are quite a few bigger stripers
showing in the Sherman Island area of the
Delta. The stripers are also congregating
to striper fishing on the Delta
while still being available for
salmon trips until the season’s
closing day.
“Last month this charter had
a slow salmon trip so today we
made it right with boat limits
on stripers to 24” plus a couple
dozen shakers,” reported
Captain James Netzel of Tight
Lines Guide Service. “We’re
going to concentrate on delta
stripers for a couple weeks but
not forget about the elusive late
fall run salmon either.”
“The water on the
Sacramento has muddied up
here in town and I recommend
using 8 ounces of weight,
due to the higher flows, if you
want to fish bait for stripers
here in town,” noted Uncle
Larry Barnes at Sacramento
Pro Tackle. “I’m advising local
anglers to fish the Port of
Sacramento or the San Joaquin
side of Brannan Island for the
best striper action.”
